He's sounded vaguely like Jesse on Mediumship when he sings slower in his lower register (I think that's the right word, idk tho) but yeah I can hear the similarities more on the first few songs of this.

 

I can’t get over how much this sounds like Brand New.

Finally got around to listening to this and I love it. Might just be my favorite thing they have ever released.

 

I really don’t hear Brand New. Let’s not jinx them, or next week we will get a Jesse solo album, when four years ago that would have been most anticipated album ever and now it’s... don’t speak the name of the band formerly called Brand New. Still feel bad when this happens for the other band members. This Dikembe album is in my top 3 of the year and there has been some classics!

 

It’s more sainthood reps and Manchester orchestra than brand new

 

BN comparison is lazy imo, sounds like Dikembe to me

all comparisons are “lazy” and generally used as a means to draw people in by simplifying characteristics/influences of a band. this sounds like shit I would recommend Brand New fans, absolutely, but they’re their own thing more than anything else and I am sure they have a broad range of influences (that may not even include BN lol). it’s cool if ppl get into them and on first brush all they hear is that band, especially if they haven’t listened to them in 3 years, but hopefully in time they will rightfully hear this album and just hear “Dikembe” instead of BN.

 

I’ve been pretty much exclusively listening to these guys the last two days. What a discography these guys have. Even Broad Shoulders which I don’t love has some bangers on it. Chicago Bowls is still my favourite ep ever. It just hit at a perfect time and means so much to me for 10 minutes of music.

fwiw I hear this more than Brand New. talk about another band that gets a lot of lazy comparisons thrown their way tho

 

after a week i’m comfortable saying this is their best album and it’s not even really close.

 

Jeez.

 

i've tried really hard to get into this band but i just can't. chicago bowls is great and wavelets is one of the best bands from that scene but i don't really know what it is about them.

 

Vinyl getting delayed till late January is brutal

 

Just found out about this the other day and I'm hooked. I remember liking Hail Something a lot when it came out. These dudes are stellar.
