I personally don't understand why everyone puts this in like a Bon Iver context but not a Neo Soul one. To me a lot of the production sounds familiar (some might say "normal" I guess, but that's a weird word) because it reminds me of the more "organic" side of the Soulquarians.
Same here. The sounds mk.gee makes are super cool, Dijon incorporates those sounds with songwriting that feels more fleshed out.
Just finished a complete Mk.gee discography run today. He's great, but after a while you kind of tune him out. His newer stuff especially starts to feel samey. I don't feel that way with Dijon. His stuff is a lot more dynamic.
Both the Brooklyn dates sold out of artist presale before the text got sent so I could see how that might have kept a bunch of people from getting tickets but not me because I guessed it and got a ticket
Mk. Gee’s newest and some of the bigger singles made me think maybe i could become a fan eventually, I checked this out and tbh despite these vocals obviously being a specific style and not grating per se, I think in both cases it’s great sounding music that I can’t quite get into due to the vocal styles. Probably why I enjoy “Daisies” and “From” much more than any Mk Gee song
For real, especially compared to the venues he played last time. He just added a New York date on 12/4 at Terminal 5 on top of the two Paramount shows
Welp, no luck for me! Got in the queue the second it opened but once I got through it, I tried to add tickets and they were somehow all in other carts already. Maybe things will go better on Friday but not holding my breath!
I got tickets to both the original SF show at the Masonic and the added show the next day at the Fox in Oakland. Would be willing to part with the Masonic tickets (center balcony) for face value if anyone is looking. The Fox is a more convenient venue and on a better date for me
missed pre-sale start time but somehow refreshed the page enough times to get GA in Vancouver. very interested to hear how these songs translate live.
Woof. Yeah y’all with bigger venues on this tour consider yourselves lucky I guess. Went to the site a half hour early today and apparently still didn’t stand a chance
managed to get tickets to the Charlotte show at the Fillmore fairly easily, and I was kinda shocked it was only $130 total for two tickets. I initially looked at tickets for Raleigh and they were almost that much for just one ticket alone, then I realized the Charlotte show was on a Tuesday which is mine and my partner’s shared day off so it worked much better for me anyway. so stoked to finally be seeing him!!! now I just need to listen to Baby a bunch more in preparation. still have only heard it once.
I’ll be interested to hear people’s experiences at the live show. I held off because I have doubts about this stuff sounding as good live as it does in my headphones.
A lot of the stuff off baby could be even crazier live, similar to what MkGee does with his live performances. Dijon playing Rodeo Clown back in 2023 was one of my personal favorite live moments of that year. So much passion.
