Was listening to the album for the first time trying to see if I could figure out which track JV was credited on. It was very obviously this track lol
Really dig this. It’s interesting that judging from this and mk.gee’s latest song that I think they’re retreating more and more from having their vocals sound clear and just having you embrace the vibe. Some of this reminded me of the easy listening music I listened to growing up, but with way more of a modern edge. Either way, loved “Absolutely” and love this. So much good stuff from this camp this year.
@The Lucky Moose sliding this recommendation your way! Sorry in advance if it’s a total miss and you hate it!
I'm not done listening to it yet but yes so far I am really into this. Thanks!! EDIT: I do think I prefer the songs where he is closer Prince or Bobby Brown than Cody Chesnutt
The Amsterdam venue one is small and great. At this point it would have to be like Michael Jackson for me to deal with Amsterdam parking fees and traffic though
I really like this a lot. Grows with each listen. Prince and Michael Jackson are key touchstones but also a ton of common ground with The 1975 and Bon Iver. “Yamaha” would fit right at home on Online Relationships.
I’ve listened to this album about 20 times. Every single song hits on some level. Yahama (obviously), FIRE!, and Automatic are all SOTY material. Most underrated song is Loyal & Marie.
I do think calling this “normal” undercuts the remarkable arrangements achieved here through Dijon’s vision. While I agree with the sentiment at large that none of this feels overly contrived or abrasive, I don’t really see it as conventional either. Maybe “natural” is a more fitting word there? Also “no highlights” is crazy on an album that contains Yamaha!
I truly don’t comprehend how someone would listen to Yamaha or Automatic and say this album has no major highlight songs.
