Abhi//dijon is a different story. Nothing on Sci-Fi or Married was anywhere as good as the best a//d stuff, Nico’s Red Truck or Magic Loop. He’s always had the stuff, but as a solo artist I was underwhelmed with his releases until Absolutely, which very well could be my favorite album of the 2020s
Well, we can definitely agree on Absolutely being a massive level up, and that he was still finding his voice as a solo artist until that point. I wouldn’t venture to say they’re like amazing EPs or anything but I think they’re both better than just one song Forgot about Magic Loop, that was a great track. We need new DJDS stuff. Also love both Skin and Stranger
I haven’t even delved into the Abhi//Dijon material. for me personally, the loose singles he put out between 2017-2019 all absolutely dominated my listening during that time of my life. I love them all to pieces, Nico’s is my favorite, but I don’t dislike a single one of them. and I’ll admit Sci-Fi didn’t make a huge impact on me upon release but I revisited it around the time Absolutely dropped and appreciated it a lot more, even if I’d consider it his weakest overall it is still good. HDYFAGM is a great EP, and I think at minimum rock n roll, do you light up, and jesse are high points and the rest is still good music with a strong vibe. Absolutely is definitely my favorite of his stuff (haven’t heard Baby yet) but I was still all-in on him before it.
I should clarify that "incredibly boring" is hyperbole and I don't agree with that. I've always liked his stuff and I don't think he's ever made bad music. I was just itching for something bigger or more ambitious, and he has continued to deliver that since Absolutely.
interesting to see other online commentary saying the mix is bad... like, it's a little cluttered but that's obviously intentional. grow up!
Where are you seeing that? I saw some barstool dorks complaining about the JB mix, but they clearly didn’t know what dijon’s style was
For the vinyl (and CD) folks, you can purchase from his site. Vinyl ships in November. Funny that it seems he hasn’t actually posted about it anywhere Dijon Shop
there’s also a phantom post about a clear vinyl variant on Amazon but the lack of details puts me off.
I absolutely love the way this sounds - I haven't been able to properly dive in yet but the opening three-song stretch is excellent.
this hits even harder on my good headphones, production is absolutely nutty. so many crazy details. that ODB sample on Automatic!
Yea it’s awesome. Sometimes it’s crunchy. Sometimes it’s squishy. Sometimes it’s smooth. Such an experience for the ears.
haven't seen much chatter about Higher yet but I think that's emerging as one of my favourites on here. the gospel influence works so well
