Article seems to frame it as a bit they started when they jokingly announced they were partnering with Exxon Mobile on behalf of sustainability. Pretty sure it's a giant bit considering this album's themes

 

that's fair, i was just crazy confused at first, lol

 

i feel like brown paper bag is their best song and as a track it really just exudes 'career defining' to me for some reason lol i'm being hyperbolic and the whole new album is great but yeah between the weirdly prescient lyricism and the mbv interpolation idk that song is special for real

 

Hell yeah we love a DIIV bump, I gotta throw this on soon. It’s probably been since late winter I last listened. Brown Paper Bag is definitely great. That one specific lyric I’m assuming you’re alluding to is crazy, I did not make that connection

 

This has grown on me a ton (just like Deceiver). Opening track is crazy good
