I always thought You was a way less interesting version of the same premise, especially after this latest season
s1 of You is on par with the worst of dexter, s2 and s3 are slightly better than that, I guess on par with the julia stiles season edit: I said julia childs at first. could you imagine.
I don't really need to connect the two. A lot of Dexter was bad and I don't want to watch You, completely unrelated to each other.
When Dexter was great, it was all-time great television. When it was bad, it was all-time bad. I feel like You takes itself way less seriously than Dexter ever did. I mean, it was originally a lifetime series, haha. You is mindless entertainment, I don't know anyone who would argue that it's actually great, but it's stayed entertaining for all three seasons. When Dexter was bad, it was insufferable and not entertaining in the least.
yep, I also think the when Dexter got bad it was extra maddening because it was a show I loved so much.
Honestly? I'm into it haha. It's not "great" or "prestige tv" or whatever, but Dexter never really was. It's obviously better than the final season, and probably the one before it. Some things are dumb but overall I enjoy the "will he/won't he" get caught storylines like the good ol' days
I’m really digging it. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched Dexter and really been on the edge of my seat of him getting caught or not (honestly probably since season 2 aired). I’m liking the new tone of the show (the Deb sequences I’m really enjoying) and I still find enough of the old dna present. I really want to see him with more people on his table. Getting a glimpse of the old Dexter was probably one of my favorite parts, Micheal C Hall is killing it.
My favorite part of the season so far is how Jennifer Carpenter seems to be having an absolute blast.
Rewatching episode 1 with my wife. -This first scene with Deb (at the table), love the direction in this sequence. -When Matt walks into the gun shop, Dexter immediately tried to sell him the same gun he said he and over a hundred people in town had. Even through his “abstinence” he was preemptively covering his tracks with an effort to blend in. -I had missed that Angela was also in the Mandalorian. Such a different role. Had to leave halfway through the episode, but still really enjoying this.
Yeah I'm having fun with it. I don't remember Aunt Deb being this mean tho. But I guess dead Aunt Deb has every reason to be pissed off
I just did a Dexter rewatch and I really don't think it takes itself too seriously. Its not like wink wink about it and plays it straight for the most part but I think they are aware of how silly it is deep down lol Especially some of the voice overs
