Just finished the first episode, and cautiously enjoying it so far. Definitely a slow burn to start with, and it almost feels like some extra-long camera shots were there simply to fill the 1 hour mark, but it's beautiful and intriguing enough to forgive. I just hope that when the show is done, it won't feel like Garland needlessly stretched a movie across a TV series simply because he's sick of dealing with movie studios. I hope he can pull that transition off as well as Sam Esmail did with Mr. Robot Two things I hope they address: 1. If they know Sergei can't be trusted then... Don't hire him? 2. How does someone burn their body at the center of a major tech company's campus and not get found for 24 hours? How is that *not* suspicious to anyone other than Lily? Are they trying to imply that he went missing for 24 hours and then returned the next day only to kill himself? Why would someone return to work to do that?
Ok sweet, the second episode addressed the second item I mentioned (though I still feel like it should seem more suspicious to others, but w/e). Overall, this episode sold me and I can't wait for the next.
The mood setting shots were my favorite moments in the premiere. Still haven’t seen the second episode but the overall tone and atmosphere of this show has me sold already. Got some Twin Peaks season 3 and OA vibes which is IDEAL
First two eps are fantastic. Garland has such a great eye for interesting shots and the score kicks ass. Love seeing Offerman In this type of role, too.
Definitely didn't think Kenton was going to win that fight Also kinda rooted against him just because of what he did to Sergei
Here to echo the sentiments regarding the first two episodes. My gf and I now have a new weekly show to look forward to. The score is something else and while it reminds me a whole lot of Annihilation at this point, it's still unique enough to stand on its own. That jarring, staggered music that sounds like a machine trying to start up but failing that plays at certain moments always instantly puts me on edge.
I am so steeped in Garland now. I just ordered one of his books and my gf has never seen Ex Machina so we're watching that tonight. I can't wait until tomorrow's episode!
Third ep was great too. I got a little nervous when the schizophrenia stuff got brought up but I loved where that went in the end.
Yeah I got little worried we were getting into a much sloppier version of Mr. Robot, but they handled it really well. Great twist there
So i’m watching Annihilation and I just realized that the abandoned base the group go to in the shimmer is called “Fort Amaya”. Cool little nod!
