I have a good feeling about this one. Damage was good though I don't think they've had something great since Chase This Light. Feeling good about this though.
Hahah well it's a long story of miscommunication but between Damage, Chase This Light, and Invented- which one do you prefer the most??
Really? Damn. I'll have to try that first then. I loved "My Best Theory" and "Higher Devotion" back in the day.
It's that time again. Time to rank JEW albums before the next release comes out. Not including their self-titled debut since I've never heard it and, from my recollection, almost no one considers it anyway. 7. Static Prevails (1996) 6. Damage (2013) 5. Invented (2010) 4. Clarity (1999) 3. Bleed American (2001) 2. Futures (2004) 1. Chase This Light (2007) Static Prevails does nothing for me. Damage has one great track: "Appreciation". Beginning with Invented, I really like all of their work. #5 through #3 really are determined by my mood and feelings of any given day. I really appreciate the uniqueness of Invented. Clarity has near-perfect pop-punk songs and choruses - it's seminal. Bleed American was my first JEW album I purchased while in high school; liked it a bunch; didn't love it until later in my early 20s. Futures is perfect and holds a special place in my music collection. Chase This Light, imo, has Jim's most pointed, heartfelt, and honest realist lyrics to date. I love the catchiness as well. "Dizzy" is my favorite JEW song, probably followed up with, "Futures", "Let It Happen," and "Lucky Denver Mint." I'm new to the boards here at Chorus.fm. Hello everyone.
1. Damage 2. Futures 3. Clarity 4. Static Prevails 5. Bleed American 6. Chase This Light 7. Invented 8. Jimmy Eat World
Damn, actually never thought about it. CTL and Invented each have two-three songs that I don't care for at all. If you're looking for some banger pop rock songs, CTL has you covered. I do think Dizzy is a litttttle overrated though. Invented has a few more of those heavy-hitter cuts, but is less consistent over-all. The last two songs are IMMENSE though, which redeems some of the more glaring missteps. Damage is more consistent, but the trade-off is that it doesn't pack the giant pop punch of CTL or the moody vibe reminiscent of Futures that Invented does. That being said... still don't know. If you listen to CTL, listen to the b-sides too because 1) they're better than most songs on the album 2) the band has said they should have been on. Open Bar Reception particularly slays. All this is to say I'll venture this: 1. Invented 2. CTL (but only by the tiniest amount) 3. Damage Hope that helps, haha
Yeah I remember hearing the b-sides to CTL and being confused as to why it didn't make the cut? Also I love the Future b-side "Big Cars" btw! But yeah dude I'll have to listen to these three today and tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think! Thanks bud!
Dude... The original demo of Drugs or Me? Made me tear up on first listen, only What Sarah Said by DCFC has ever done that to me on first listen. So powerful. But yeah dude let me know how it goes! For the sake of it: Clarity/Futures/ BA Invented /CTL Damage (love this tho) Static prevails
Oh I'll have to check out the demo. It's the Mark Trombino demos right? Before they decided to go with Gil Norton yeah?
7. Static 6. Damage 5. Clarity 4. Bleed 3. Futures 2. Chase 1. Invented (Subject to change, particularly between BA and CTL. Those three are essentially equal).
He was their original producer but things went south (like they did with Finch on Say Hello to Sunshine) or parted ways amicably and they got Gil Norton to produce the final product.
I find people's album order preference interesting but these guys have been around a while and I really think it depends on where you were when you first heard them that helps dictate that. One thing that helps their early work is they have never suffered from poor production like a lot of other bands did in the 90's - Clarity for me is perfection... My order from best to worst is as follows:- Clarity Futures Bleed American Invented Damage Chase This Light Static Prevails I just didn't connect all that well with Chase This Light (Not to say I don't enjoy it) but I think if you look at the difference stylistically between that album and my fav (Clarity) it's pretty noticeable! I NEED to give a shout out to the Stay On My Side Tonight EP as I think the three original songs on that are some of the best they have ever recorded. High hopes for Integrity Blues! - 2/2 so far for me on the songs they've released :)
