Finally listened, these songs sound straight off of Kaputt and I couldn't be more pleased

 

loving the pre-release songs - they groove. dude has been a roll for the last decade plus

 

He did it again, pure gold front to back.

This rules. I went back to ken today too and it's also fantastic, I'm a dope for not spending more time with it when it came out. I've still not really found my way into his earlier stuff, but the run from Kaputt to this record is untouchable. Poison Season is still my favourite, I think.

 

Also, was surprised to see this get BNM this morning. Figured after they skipped over ken and Poison Season, along with no singles getting BNT, they were kinda done praising his work so highly. Solid piece too, one of my favourite I've read over there lately.

What a great album. Blew my expectations out of the water, even after loving all three pre-release singles. Can we talk about how many great Destroyer lyrics there are on this, especially when the songs are actually quite concise lyrically?

Some favorites:
"The music makes a musical sound."
"We throw the game and oh, how it feels so good to be drunk on the field again."
"Shall I cancel the play? What, three showings a day?"
"No wait, I take that back, I was more like the ocean."
"Been to America, been to Europe, it's all the same shit."

and obviously "Cue fake drums."

 

i was expecting something very different from an artist called "Destroyer". and then when i saw the album artwork i wasn't sure if it was a tongue and cheek play on something or legit who the artist was lol. and then when the album started and endlessly throughout the album i was all sorts of confused and amused.

 

Haha that's a pretty common experience with this artist. Check out Kaputt next!
