Not "worse," just missing content and features that Destiny 1 had by the end.

Yep. His review was spot on. I also love his video on the next WF update PoE. That update, by a small dev team of about 100 people who made a game that’s free to play, will be a better sequel than a completely new game.

I think we all love this series, clearly. I love Destiny 2. This is tough love. This game should’ve been more. More stuff to do. New items new ideas new classes new everything. Half of it is reskins and then those reskins are reskinned again to sell to us as ornaments or faction rewards. It’s just embarrassing

It’s hard to say. I think D2 is leaps and bounds better than vanilla D1. Is it better than, say, Taken king or even RoI Destiny? Not really, no. It’s missing a lot of features and has half the content. It’s 2 steps forward and 4 steps back. If you didn’t play beyond vanilla D1 then this game will be great and probably be your new obsession. But for a lot of us it’s just “fine”

Yeah agreed 100%. I still enjoy the game but it's so disappointing in terms of what we had by the end of Age of Triumph compared to what we have now. Private matches, tons of different weapons and armor sets, four raids, Prison of Elders, etc. all gone.

Yep. It’s sad that I’d be elated to have Prison Of Elders back. It wasn’t even that great but shit it was SOMETHING to do and it even had its own armor sets that WERENT recycled!!!! How crazy!!!!

PoE + Heroic strikes (both with reasons to do them instead of quick public events) would make me happy enough with the endgame, even ignoring the fact there should be two or three times as many strikes/crucible maps as there are.

Like honestly, during the lead-up to launch I was a huge believer in the game's sequel status. All those people calling it Destiny 1.5 pissed me off because we hadn't played it and it really did seem like they had gone all-out. But now that I've experienced everything it has to offer, it really does feel more like a glorified expansion. So much recycled content, so many cut corners (there are only six strikes! Five if you're on Xbox!). It should've been so much more, especially with the extra year they had.

Btw Plains Of Eidolon is the next FREE WF update coming soon so hop on that

Yeah basically Endgame now is flashpoint, crucible milestone, clan XP milestone, raid if you can get a group, then Trials and.....that’s about it. That’s about 8 hours of content? If that. That’s pitiful considering the raid isn’t really that fun and the crucible is a MIDA clusterfuck

That's how I felt with vanilla D1. Was done forever after a month. It's just as much my fault, as I haven't been playing much of anything for several years now. But I had a lot of fun in that time period. And also a lot of frustration. Idk it was weird as hell. The gameplay was spectacular and the way you play with friends in it was amazing.

I'm very intrigued by the idea of this games structure and content. Not necessarily in a good way personally, but it seems like an interesting phenomenon. It's kinda a brand new type of game really and it's like it psychologically makes us want to complete challenges under different circumstances (by chance of reward). And it seems to be pretty polarizing.

I really should do some milestones but I kind of just want to watch the newest episode of Star Trek and play Cuphead instead so idk.

I guess for me I’m approaching it from an MMO perspective. I’ve played WoW since vanilla. I’ve been a progression raider since the first time I stood in awe at watching 40 people take down Ragnaros and cheering once he’d finally been down. The concept of “weekly quests” “dailies” “grinding” are all appealing to me. When people ask why I play WoW or Destiny or Warframe they’re often confused. It’s essentially killing things to get better weapons to kill tougher things to get even better weapons and so forth. That really appeals to me. But the way D2 approaches it is so watered down. Gear is just handed to you. Every weapon and armor piece has static rolls, no more chasing “god rolled” Hawkmoons or Thunderlords or any of that. There’s no carrot on the string anymore, they’ve removed the carrot and instead given us a shinier string with nothing on the end. In WoW when a new expansion comes out, we don’t just throw away the old content. It’s still there, it still persists through the world, I can go back to the very same Ragnaros raid and solo it to my hearts content for some cool gear. D2 didn’t keep stuff from D1, it didn’t build on it, it instead wiped the slate clean and gave us half the content. Hell its ambiguous as to if we’re even PLAYING the same Guardians we were playing in D1. It’s like a bad soft reboot or something. Even the lore, D1 had really rich detailed lore that was always MEANT to be kind of elusive, tucked away in item descriptions and passing exchanges. It made the world feel so interesting, this world of fantasy and sci-fi where orders of knights and magical powers could exist right alongside space ships and robotic organisms and make perfect sense. Now in D2 it’s more streamlined, a linear story that, while pretty good, is kind of short and a bit cliche. There aren’t any interesting details to be gleaned from items or NPCs. They’re just kind of there. Im sure future expansions will rectify all of this and that’s good but this whole “just wait for the expansions!” Excuse is getting old quick. It got old in The Dark Below tbh

Well this was all super interesting to read (and try to read)

Even if I'm very ignorant about mmos and destiny ha

I've gotta see if my group of friends who plays Destiny every night will Twitch it or something for me

Hah, sorry about that it can seem like mumbo jumbo without context

Yeah just watch some videos and I’d recommend buying it. D2 is a good game. It’s good. Serviceable. Fine. It’s much more welcoming to newer players than ever before.

The lack of content wouldn't be as big of a deal if you didn't power your light level so fast. Many were way beyond raid level before the raid even dropped.

Yep. Real kick in the face is the fact that the raid isn’t even that good. I’ve become much more negative towards it after a second run through. The gardens and gauntlet are just annoying and tedious, the baths are ok but again kind of meh, Calus is really cool it’s just a shame that the rest of the raid isn’t up to that standard. Give me Crotas End over Leviathan every day of the week.
