I’m still really salty that I never got the salt emote from season 1. And now it’s gone for at least a while if not forever.

 

i still have yet to get an exotic emote of any kind

I was lucky and got the Salt emoji my first bright engram drop.

 

Yeah my plan for season 2 is to just hoard bright dust, dismantle basically every legendary ship and sparrow I get, and then when something really good is up for sale hopefully I'll have enough to buy it. I got the selfie emote, which was the only new one I really wanted, but it would be cool to also have the sweeper bot one. Plus the Vex/Osiris-themed exotic ships are pretty awesome-looking.*

*But that also pisses me the hell off because they could have made at least one of them into a drop of some kind, like an ultra-rare drop out of the public event on Mercury, but only when it's Heroic; that way people have something cosmetic to grind for and also Bungie doesn't look like as big of transparent assholes for taking things that used to be earnable through gameplay and putting them in blind-buy real-money loot boxes.

 

Heroic strikes aren't so bad. but the one on Mercury takes some time, you gotta take out the enemies towards the end, there's no way around it. Got wiped twice lol.

so far the DLC has been.....ok. i like that we can go to level 30 again and the light level increase was very needed. the new gear looks great. Osiris is pretty cool. the new strikes are fine.

unfortunately this isnt enough to constitute a DLC. calling this an "expansion" is awfully bold. yes yes i know raid lair is coming this friday and next week we'll be getting some more stuff but thats kind of the issue. a lot of this stuff shouldve been in the game at launch or at the very least come right after launch in a free update. Mercury is cool and all but its the smallest zone we have. its so small they wont even let us use our Sparrows because they need to make the map seem bigger than it really is. the story was short but i expected that and thats not that big of a deal. the more egregious problem is the "infinite forest". so i was under the impression given what theyve said that this would be different looking tilesets that can be arranged in a variety of different ways. only part of that is true, the infinite forest is only one tileset and sure it looks nice but god damn after the 8th time going through it in the campaign i was already sick of it. id be pretty embarrassed if I were a game dev at Bungie. the biggest innovation is in the fucking Eververse store, theres probably more content in there than in the rest of the game. players have coined "Spendgame" as our new endgame and im starting to get on board with that. yeah at least it can all be earned just by leveling but still its starting to become a really slippery slope.

the new exotics are a double edged sword. on one hand its so great seeing some fan favorites back but thats also kind of the problem: the new exotics they make just arent interesting. im way more excited about the recycled D1 exotics than i am for the actual new ones. the good news is theyre somewhat easier to get now and there are a couple different ways to go about getting them aside from public events. the Heroic Strikes dont have modifiers which is a real shame but at least we have a weekly milestone that encourages us to do at east 3 of them. the Heroic Adventures are kind of a mixed bag but at least theyre another option to pursue once you get bored of the other content.

and then theres Crucible. Crucible needs to be completely reworked. it just doesnt work the way it is right now. its not fun, its too slow, and the PvE is suffering because of PvP balance. Bungie, you can keep adding new weapons and doing slight tweaks all you want but youre just spraying perfume on a corpse. 6v6 would make all the difference in the world but separate balancing for PvP would also go a long way. This is more subjective I guess but I also think the maps need to be reworked, theres only like 2 or 3 that are really fun to play on.

its not all bad though! this is a step forward. baby steps are still progress and hopefully the next couple weeks will show that Bungie are ready to start sprinting forward towards a better game. the Verses/Prophecy weapons w/e you wanna call them are neat and are a pretty good incentive to keep plugging away at Public Events, Strikes, Crucible, etc but they'll only go so far. the masterworks system and the raid lair will definitely help as far as content inadequacy goes but we'll have to wait and see how those play out. we've also got the Dawning and Iron Banner coming up so that will be more stuff to do which is always nice.

Curse Of Osiris isnt so much a breath of fresh air, its more like cracking a small window in a stuffy room. its a step in the right direction but it needed to be more. i dont want this game to continue getting such bad publicity and losing SO MANY players but at this point im not sure if anything save for a Taken King style expansion could stop the hemorrhaging of frustrated Guardians.

 

Honesty I’m starting to think of hemorrhaging player numbers as a good thing. When only the hobbyist players are left Bungie will really have no choice at all but to listen to us. Not using “casual” as a pejorative term here, but catering to casual Destiny fans, i.e. people that don’t want Destiny to be a game they can come back to almost daily, is what got us here. With all of them gone, Bungie needs the hobbyists to stay happy to keep making money.
