That was one of the best gigs of my life. Amazing night. There's a chance I'm still standing in the venue, in shock at them playing Battle-Axe. Couldn't believe it. Sounded HUGE.
I think it might be my favourite on the S/T. They hadn't played it in eleven years before last night and Chino had insinuated a few years ago that they probably wouldn't play it again. So I lost it when that opening guitar part came in.
I remember seeing them back in 2003 in Manchester - Chino was steaming drunk but they were phenomenal Encore was Battle Axe, Bloody Cape and Teething Miss those days
I'm interested in the crossover appeal between Deftones and Future. It kind of makes sense with the little Future I've listened to and enjoyed, and I think several people here really like both artists, but I'm curious how it will be for a larger live audience.
Just so no one's confused, Graphic Nature is the sexiest Deftones song. Dirty, dirty groove and that chorus woof
I have family in San Diego with a birthday the weekend of Dia De Los Deftones so I'm trying to figure out the logistics of flying out there and going. Lord help my wallet
The self-titled was the first album of theirs I heard in high school, and I liked it a lot, but I got more taken by White Pony/SNW/Diamond Eyes. This past week though I’ve been revisiting the S/T and I’m digging it just as hard as their other stuff. Nostalgia over Minerva and Hexagram and finding new love for a bunch of other tracks (When Girls Telephone Boys, Battle-Axe). Obligatory: GOD HELP ME, GOD HELP ME, GOOOOOOOOD
There's so much good content from this band that I love equally. Though it doesn't have the most endearing lyrical content or riffs, Hexagram is always a top contender for favorite Deftones song. I thoroughly enjoy covering it on drums and Chino's delivery is near incomparable. The "chorus" structure of it is quite unlike anything i've really ever heard from a rock/metal band and it works flawlessly for the song. Despite the fact that it's really unorthodox.
The first time I heard Hexagram, I thought “Oh, this is actual heavy music.” Definitely the most intense thing I’d heard at that point.
