I like about three quarters of it, but I don't think some of the ultra-aggressive tracks ("Rapture," "Rats! Rats! Rats!") work very well alongside the darker, electronic ones. I also think Chino sounds worse on this album than any other, something live performances from that era seem to echo. It's experimental and interesting to hear and read about, but it's also just messy in a way Deftones albums usually aren't. It's 8-9 strong tracks, 2-3 weaker ones and then "Pink Cellphone," however you want to categorize that.
Rats Rats Eats too. SNW has slowly turned into one of my favorites from this band, maybe even my favorite
My favorite Deftones record will probably always be White Pony, but my number two rotates between Around the Fur, S/T, and Diamond Eyes these days. I love all of their albums so much, it’s hard to pick favorites.
I still think White Pony is their best but Diamond Eyes feels like a spiritual successor to that record and gives it a run for its money
Needles & Pins from ST is my current fav Deftones song. Checking out some live vids of it from 2003 yesterday and there is no guitar in the song?! 2 Bass guitars, with Steph playing through a guitar amp with distortion! Cool as hell
I’d be surprised if they’re not in the studio by the end of the year. Chino said they were already writing last year right?
