SNW has Hole in the Earth, Cherry Waves and Beware, which immediately qualifies it for top 3 'tones Speaking of Beware, that song, Bloody Cape, Royal, Rosemary, Phantom Bride, Headup.... they've got the damn market cornered on crushing outros
White Pony is by far my favourite album by them, I think just how incredibley written that album is plus the fact that when that album came out it expanded a lot of my tastes in music. I like all their albums (and hold a few of them as all time favs of any band) but I'd say the album I'm probably the least keen on is Koi No Yokan but I still like that album a fair bit.
How difficult is it to pick the best side one, track one for these guys? I mean, their openers are fucking fire. Bored My Own Summer Feiticiera Hexagram Hole In The Earth Diamond Eyes Swerve City Prayers/Triangles It's impossible to pick a favorite.
I totally agree. I’ve got so many great musical memories from 2006, and this album’s release is one of them. And even if the record is a little rough, it’s a perfect encapsulation of the band’s struggles at that point. I get why they don’t like to revisit many songs from the “dark days” but there’s some really beautiful stuff on SNW.
Saturday Night Wrist is a great album. The first four songs on there rule so hard, especially Hole In The Earth amd Beware. Riviere, or however it's spelled, is a fantastic closer. I gotta give an honorable mention to Xerces as well. I love the mood and atmosphere to that song. It's chorus is huge too.
I've been on a massive Radiohead kick the last few weeks, but I feeling a break for Deftones here and there will be in store for today, starting with SNW
Cherry Waves, Xerces, and Riviere are just next level beautiful. Also, I love Abe's drum fill right before the heavy riff kicks in at the end of Hole in the Earth.
AND THE CROWD GOES WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILD i cry every time
I'm on Cherry Waves now. I didn't appreciate this song as much before, but I've fallen in love with it (and this album) so much over the past year and a half or so
I love the chorus of Cherry Waves, and Chi's bass in the verses is so good. It took me a while to really hear what he was doing, but once I did, it added another layer of enjoyment to that song for me.
I need to own more Deftones on vinyl, I currently only have White Pony. Since I took out deja from the vinyl frame on my wall, I think I’ll pick up the S/T next as I love that albums artwork so much and it would look great on my wall.
One of the very best songs they've done imo. The atmosphere is ridiculous, I can be listening to that song in complete daylight and suddenly it feels like it's pouring rain and there's dark clouds
Haha, I’ve got the album as my avatar, been singing its praises for months, and then some n00b comes in and gets the whole thread talking about how awesome it is! What’s your stance on “Pink Cellphone”? Because if it’s “Awesome Song, Don’t Get Why Everyone Hates It” then you are correct!
Remember reading a YouTube comment about how that version is “the perfect song to make out to” and I haven’t read anything with that much truth since.
n00b?!?! Get yer facts straight, punk! I've been singing its praises since 2006!! :p It's an interesting and silly "song" that is more of a joke to me than a song. Do I hate it? No. It's just kinda there
Lol, I meant thr34d n00b. I only discovered SNW (and Deftones) in 2011, so you got the leg up on me! But “Pink Cellphone” is a brilliant, ominous beast of a song that undulates with sex and danger. Listening to it is like riding a rusty elevator to an underground nightclub that sits over the gates of Hell.
