I've never been the biggest fan of Romantic Dreams for whatever reason. Not a bad song of course, but it's probably my least favorite on KNY. It just never clicked with me for some reason.
I really love that one. I can’t really articulate why it appeals to me so much, but it’s one of my favorites on the album for sure. Idk how else to describe it but it feels like it’s constantly shifting moods. I think my least favs on KNY are in the back half, I always end up getting Gauze and Goon Squad mixed up, but I feel like they’re both two of my least favs. Listening to KNY rn actually. Perfect for this time of year.
Fall albums end up being my favorite albums, so this is probably my favorite Deftones album, even though I recognize White Pony as the real game changer.
It’s second for me, behind S/T (also a fall album for me... coincidence? Haha). I’m with you, though. Fall albums are p much the best.
Had KNY in the car the last few days. Gauze has always been on my favourites on the album, that chorus is a perfect example of why I listen to this band. And i feel Leathers often gets overlooked. That song is unspeakably huge.
I'll never forget how blown away I was when I heard that. I'd never heard anything that heavy in my life.
Totally agree. Cool ideas in it musically, but the verses and chorus feel a bit glued together, as if it wasn't written as a complete song. The lyrics are not a strong point, either. It definitely captures and highlights that Mellon Collie-era SP sound they seem to take increasing inspiration from on the last couple records.
I just listened to it again and then rewinded like 20 times in a row so I could keep listening to it. Chills every time
Hexagram is cool, but WGTB is the unsung hero of the record and does the whole impossibly heavy/screaming thing better. /hottake
Hello thread. Probably somewhat of an unpopular opinion, but god damn, I love Saturday Night Wrist so much. I understand it's not the most solid album, but I cannot properly articulate the nostalgia hearing it provokes. It is just a time capsule in sonic form for me, with Hole in the Earth and Cherry Waves being some of my favorite songs of all time that instantly transport me to my high school days. I think my favorite album overall though is Diamond Eyes.
No I'm absolutely with you, SNW landed at a very important point in my life, it's an incredibly special album for me even though I recognise it's flaws. I could count HITE, Beware, Cherry Waves, Combat, Kimdracula and Riviere all in my top tier deftones songs.
I think Saturday Night Wrist might be my favorite? I mean I think White Pony is the best, objectively, but if I had to pick one record I think SNW would be the one right now.
