The internal debate as to whether White Pony, S/T, Diamond Eyes, or Koi No Yokan is my favorite Deftones record rages on. WP is obviously a classic, but I love the focus of Diamond Eyes. And I love the darkness of S/T and the experimentation of KNY. Gah, this band.

 

Yeah, on any given day my favourite could be White Pony, Saturday Night Wrist, or Diamond Eyes. Each album has different, but very personal associations, I can't really separate them.

 

Diamond Eyes, White Pony, and Gore form that high-tier trio for me that all could be my favorite at any given time, but DE is the one that usually wins out

 

WP, S/T, and DE are that trio for me

 

So glad to see all of the Diamond Eyes love. That's my second favorite record of theirs behind White Pony

 

White Pony is superb. It's as if they went Super Saiyan, and didn't power down until after it was in everyone's hands. Excellent!

 

Did anything ever come of Eros?

 

"Smile", an instrumental version of a song that got reworked as "Beauty School", live footage of "Melanie", and I think that's it.

Oh my God. I remember how stoked I was when they shared this originally, and thought an Eros shadow drop was imminent.

its a White Pony morning

like i know we all know this but how fucking good is this band

 

White Pony is otherworldly. I can't imagine a better album that they could've made that perfectly encapsulates the band.

 

i cant imagine being a Deftones fan in the 90s, enjoying Adrenaline and ATF (which to be fair ATF has some experimental moments but still) and then the band drops WP which is essentially a perfect album. I just love how effortlessly they can go from one extreme to the other and how fascinatingly twisted Chinos lyrics are. Its the audio equivalent of a stylish slasher film

 

I wasn't a fan until ATF, but I remember when WP came out and me and my friends just lost our minds.

 

i can imagine. going from Feiticeira to Digital Bath to Elite mustve been an experience

 

went to the Deftones subreddit and i hadnt realized how many fans dont like Gore. its even getting some hate on Sputnik as well. aside from the production i think its pretty damn good but i havent revisited it in a couple weeks

 

weird, seemed universally praised when it was released. i like it a lot. Hearts/Wires especially.

 

Yeah it's very strange to me how much hate it gets there. Like, it seems almost universally hated on the subreddit. I still love the album even though it has some production issues.

 

I wouldn't go to the Deftones subreddit for intelligence or common sense.

Not that I'm saying that you have to like Gore, but just as a general rule of thumb, people are a bit dumb on there.

 

i usually like going to band subreddits but ya the Deftones subreddit has some....odd opinions. DE is considered a bad rehash of ATF, Gore and KNY are uninspired, just lots of head scratchers

 

I try not to care about most people's opinions on bands I like too much bc I usually end up loving the band's most divisive or hated record (S/T and and KNY, for example).

 

Xenon is still my least favorite on Gore. Not bad, but it's kind of the Graphic Nature of the album for me. Nothing I'm going to skip, but nothing I'm going to listen to outside of a full album listening session. I love pretty much all of the other songs.
