They're talking about making new music sooner rather than later, so thats a good sign. But I still don't see them releasing anything for quite awhile. Chino Moreno Says Deftones Have Been Discussing Working On New Material | Theprp.com
Hey, new beer... Also, saw them mention something about opening on select dates of Guns n' Roses current tour.
If you're talking about "Pink Cellphone," then I regret to inform you that you are Another Person Who Is Wrong. That song is an undulating, ominous, sexy best right there. Just curious, does everybody hate it for the grossout outro? Because if that's the case, then the clean version of this album is the perfect album...
ballou or fridmann (especially fridmann and his ability to pull dreaminess out of loudness a la his work with thursday) would be great too
I honestly really don't care for the idea of Deftones working with Terry Date again. Date is fine and his work on those albums is serviceable and cool, but I think there are so many better options Deftones could work with nowadays. The production of their last three albums is mediocre at best and I'd love see them switch it up. Dave Fridamnn would be so cool and Fridmann has worked with heavy, aggressive bands before (Baroness, Thursday). Kurt Ballou would be cool. Justin Meldel-Johnsen would be really cool, now that it's been mentioned. Jack Shirley would be tight. John Congleton could be cool (I love his work with This Will Destroy You). Matt Bayles (ISIS, Caspian, Foxing) could be really cool too. The list goes on and on and on
Yeah, by bringing Terry Date back in. White Pony is literally one of the best sounding albums ever. There's a reason so many sound engineers check sound with Digital Bath.
he just gets them imo. not sure these last two producers really understood the best way to capture their sound.
It's a poor song with an unmeasurably unlistenable outro. The beat is cool for a little bit, and if you put the short version from the demos in its place, it would be passable. Might even be cool given the whole ambient first minute of Combat. But listening to the album on vinyl, there's no way around it, and it puts a damper on the whole experience. Chino's parts are relatively weak, the female vocalist is really terrible except for the chorus parts. But the spokenword in the bridge, not just the outro, is cringe too. Just dreadful. I also think Serj's parts on Mein aren't that great, but I don't like Serj's singing to begin with.
Yea imo mein is the real misstep on SNW and not pink cellphone. The latter doesn't bother me at all, I think it's a fun little interlude. But yea, mein has crappy melodies and the Serj part is rough. Drums are the only thing that get me through that song
FTR, Mein rulllllllles aside from Serj and it runs long because of him. Love how shimmery the guitar sounds.
