Looks like the Chino track he'll be on by Incubus is also the one produced by Skrillex. Skrillex, Incubus collaboration seems to involve Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno - News - Alternative Press
Can't believe Gore has been out for nearly a year now. I'm still digging it a ton, production issues aside.
I love some of their videos. The most recent being the You've Seen The Butcher one. Wasn't a fan of Romantic Dream's vid.
Just listened to Gore the other day and still love it. I've grown to really appreciate other songs like Doomed User and Xenon
Xenon is the only one I'm not crazy about. I've said this multiple times, but it's crazy how much Doomed User grew on me. It flows so great on the album.
I don't think there is any hate for the actual album. At least not on this site. Just a feeling that the mix was better. You can barely tell Abe is there sometimes.
Honestly, the transition from Acid Hologram into Doomed User made me love the latter more than I did initially.
I mean, I get the criticisms. If you wanted a heavy Deftones album like practically any of the ones before, this isn't it. Coupled with the production issues (like you said, Abe gets lost in the mix, like on Acid Hologram). This feels like the album I've always wanted Deftones to make. The production doesn't really bother me much since the songwriting is so strong
I love that song so much. It grew on me a ton over the last few years. I'm so glad I got to see them play it live last summer, which also happened to be my first time ever seeing them
I haven't gotten to see them live yet. Back in 2009 when Diamond Eyes first came out I was going to see them at a small club nearby, but I was 14 and couldn't drive. Then in 2011 they opened for System of a Down, but I didn't have the money for the show.
Saw them in '10 right after DE came out. Was so magical. Heard mixed things about their live performance before hand. They killed it.
I finally got to see them last fall and it was glorious. Really really wish I could see them with Thrice this summer.
Only Chino is hit or miss depending on the era, and (sorry to say that, but from what I've heard in many years) Chino's health/weight. He got better once Diamond Eyes came out and has been so good live since.
Really surprised to hear you say that. To me, Gore is the most consistently 'heavy' - or, at least, 'hard rock' sounding - record they've made since Around the Fur. Not nearly as much screaming as that record, to be sure, but it has very few of the soft spots or ambient experiments of their last five records. Which, I think, is why I've not really warmed to this record nearly as much as the others. I can respect it on a songwriting level, but there's no real curveballs in the listnening experience for me - which is what I loved about their other records. None of the songs from Gore have really stayed with me, save for "(L)MIRL" and "Phantom Bride." Hope they do something much more adventurous on the next record.
I think Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan are more heavy and aggressive than this album, or most of their albums. There's a reason Stephen had a difficult time getting into the songs at first and still probably does. Despite that, there's definitely heavy moments on this album, but Doomed User and the title track really stand out as the only overall heavy/aggressive songs. I think it speaks to the album's songwriting that they can achieve these big moments through more atmospheric songs: Prayers/Traingles, Acid Hologram, Hearts/Wires, (L)MIRL, Phantom Bride. It's certainly still a Deftones album and fits in very nicely with their discography overall. Feels like it continues what they were doing on Saturday Night Wrist, although I'm sure that wasn't their goal considering how much they dislike that era.
