You are speaking my fucking language, bruh! Rivière as a closer? I think if they played Rivière at all I would probably cry.
Rivière is so great. There's a lot of gems on SNW. It took me a long time to really get into it but I'm so glad I did. It's a really unique album in their discography.
For anyone who doesn't already own it, Gore is currently only 99 cents on Google Play: Deftones: Gore - Music on Google Play
Just saw them for my first time and they were incredible. The performances were on point. Chino, in particular, was amazing. The light show was really cool and I felt like it added another element to their set. The setlist was great overall. I was bummed that they didn't play Minerva or Hearts/Wires, but they played Beauty School and I'm happy about that. I had such a great time and I can't wait to see them again next time.
the band not getting along that well is what makes them work - the tug and pull between Chino & Stephen SNW is my fav D'tones album too, it's a perfect equilibrium between their both sides, it can get heavy and vicious, but also atmospheric and shoegazy
I agree that tension has served the band well creatively in the past, during the recording of White Pony especially. I just feel like it did more harm than good on SNW. I still love a lot of stuff on that record, don't get me wrong. I just think it would have turned out better with one producer, and recorded in the same studio.
Might go see them later this month. I don't know a ton of their material which is the deciding factor.
It grew on me so much when I heard it in the context of the album. The outro of Acid Hologram into Doomed User is one of my favorite parts of the album.
Yeah it's really weird how I was not into Doomed User at all upon it's release, but I think it flows really well.
The transitioning between songs is pretty great on the album in general. Some really neat ideas to sew the tracks together.
Agree with all the love for Doomed User. I read somewhere that Chino spent a year writing Gore, which leads me to believe the other members didn't have much to do with the writing, which would also probably be a first. Maybe that is why Stef is not so into it?
I think Stef likes it now, it just took him a while. As far as I understand it, Chino and Sergio did the bulk of the songwriting at the start and Stef contributed more at the end when he started to get into it.
