I listened to most of this band's discography yesterday and I'm finishing it up tonight with SNW and KNY. Truly great discography overall. I listened to Adrenaline for the first time ever yesterday and it actually wasn't bad like I was thinking it'd be. Granted, I didn't think it was good either upon first listen, but it sits there in the middle as an alright album. Everything since then has either been good or great and that's what really matters. Absolutely one of my favorite bands and now I need to change my avatar.
It's wild how much this band has come to mean to me over the years since I started listening to them in 2011. Now I consider them a top 10 or even top 5 band for me. Back then, I had never heard music like this before. I never knew metal could sound like this. I used to be into some metal and hard rock back when I was in high school, but I never knew what metal coupe possibly be until I listened to White Pony in 2011. Now I've gotten into other styles of metal like post-metal, atmospheric black metal, and sludge/stoner metal because of this band. This band has really expanded my taste in music. Chino has become one of my favorite vocalists I've ever heard and Abe has become a big influence on me as a drummer. Goddamn, a truly special band here. White Pony, Diamond Eyes, Gore, and even Saturday Night Wrist now mean so much to me. Sorry for gushing so much. I guess listening to a band's entire discogaphy across two days will do that to me haha.
Yeah I was listening to it earlier and it seems like it'd work as an opener to me. There are other SNW songs I'd rather see instead of Kimdracula though, but I also know I shouldn't be picky because I can't believe they're playing anything from that album at all.
LMIRL might be the new song I'm most excited to see live, but of course I'm hype on all three Gore songs
Mmhm. Such a strong close to the album. I really love a lot of individual tracks from SNW, but they never seem to congeal into a great album, for some reason. If I listen to White Pony or Diamond Eyes, I have to listen to the whole thing. With SNW, I usually jump around in the track listing.
It's hard to believe that SNW is nearly ten years old. Hole In the Earth and Kimdracula are my favourite songs from it. I agree that it's not cohesive as a whole but it has some really great songs. What lets the album down somewhat is the ending of Pink Cellphone, it's just unnecessary. They should have included the ending as a hidden track or just not at all.
i think snw is pretty cohesive, in that it feels like all the songs share the same atmosphere, even pink cellphone. censored version of the album cuts the coda of pink cellphone which is imo the preferred version
I'm the weirdo for whom Saturday Night Wrist was their first Deftones album. Love it then. Love it now. ATF.
I think all their albums are very cohesive. Although, of the six albums I'd say I'm really familiar with, S/T and KNY are the only ones with a song or two I'd consider mediocre.
One thing that hurts SNW imo is the fact that it was recorded with multiple producers. Plus, the band not getting along and all that.
