It might be the fact that this is my first actual Deftones album (listened to White Pony and Diamond Eyes once but never revisited them until after Gore), but there are a lot of moments that get stuck in my head such as the chorus of "Prayers/Triangles". In fact, once I think about the "Smother me in shapes" part of "Acid Hologram", I have the whole song looped in my head until I listen to something to occupy it.
Chorus of Prayers/Triangles is amazing. For me it's just not as great and unique as Leathers chorus, for example. Nevertheless it's crazy how they still make records this interesting after more that 20 years of playing. Every Deftones record has a lot to talk about. And they are not trying to be "cool" and "modern" and radio-friendly like, i don't know, Korn. But they evolve in their own way.
There is a Pitchfork review, Ian gave it a 7.8. I think it's pretty good. Deftones: Gore Album Review | Pitchfork
Swerve City is my second least favorite song on that album and one of my least favorite songs they've done since ATF. With that being said, it's not bad, but I don't think it's good either.
Same. I like it for about a minute, then I'm ready to turn it. Although I can't argue with them choosing it as the first single off that album.
sometimes Ian Cohen says things as bad as Ronald McDonald would say. "hooks disguised as transition" "Gore captures the inimitable essence of the band: the thing that makes people reference them when discussing Deafheaven, Sigur Ros’ Kveikur or basically any heavy rock album that strives to be prettier than its peers or vice versa" what? why vice versa?
Talking of Ronald McDonald, he gave Gore a 4/10. FOUR OUT OF TEN!!! I'm convinced he needs to see a psychiatrist or something.
he's dumb but wait so like to you deftones is universal enough to warrant an above 4 rating from everybody? otherwise see a psychiatrist?
Listened to the covers album for the first time in a couple of years today. Sucks that it was never distributed on CD; I hate that there's technically a Deftones album I don't own a physical copy of.
If anyone goes to RSD and could manage to snag a copy of B-Sides & Rarities for me, I will love you forever.
