I can't get over how perfectly the lyrics flow with the instrumentation on Geometric Headdress. Also, Chino's scream at the end of Gore rivals that of Royal.
My favorite screams that have ever been recorded are at the end of the second and third verses in Hexagram ("faint SMILE").
I still don't think Royal will be topped for me. A few other favorites are Root, 7 Words, and of course Hexagram.
I know all I do is go on about how much I love the self-titled record but it's just seriously got all my favorite Chino moments on it. Haha. Hexagram, WGTB, Bloody Cape... As far as heavy moments/screams in Deftones songs go those all take the cake for me.
@nohandstoholdonto Totally agreed. The end of "Bloody Cape" is probably my favorite slice of heavy Deftones.
@LightWithoutHeat The review got pushed to beginning of the summer. Drew is trying a different editor.
@Drew Beringer I'm glad you mentioned Frank's contributions to "Acid Hologram." One of my favorite aspects of that song is his work during the verses. I wish he got more recognition for his influence on the band's sound.
The new record is great. But for me it lacks hooks and catchy "pop" moments. I mean they are metal band, but I always liked their strange combination of heavy riffing, experimental things like unusual time signatures and great hooks. Even their screamy and heavy songs like "Rats Rats Rats" were catchy as hell. This record is still very Deftones. But for me it's not as memorable as the previous ones And SNW is really great
Alright, after a few days with the catalog S/T>WP>KNY>Gore=SNW>DE>ATF>>Adrenaline Minus Adrenaline, they're all superb and listening to them all has been an absolute joy the past few days. This band is rapidly ascending to be a top 10-15 artist for me.
