So it looks like Fred is an official confirmed member now. He’s in the new band photo that’s up on Spotify

 

To be fair, Sergio was in band photos, videos and did interviews and was apparently never an official member

 

Man, there is a lot of cool shit on Ohms. This always happens to me. I fall in love with the previous album right as the new one surfaces.

 

I’m gotta give it another listen on my commute. I listened when it came out and it went in one ear and immediately out the other, I only really remember what the closer sounds like.

 

I think one of my favorite things about Ohms is how well sequenced it is and how the tracks transition seamlessly into one another.

 

For sure. Frank is all over this thing too. Maybe the most pronounced he's been.

 

I love Ohms, the grooves on Error and Radiant City were stuck in my head for weeks when it came out.

 

Ohms is very good, but I don't think it's top five personally (which is not saying much for this band)

 

its in mine for sure. easily the most i dug a tones album post snw and threads a lot of their less accessible characteristics back in glorious form. the only thing that keeps it as low as 5th or 4th is chino honestly

 

That's about my only gripe with it. I feel like some of the vocal choices he made weren't quite up to par.

 

I won’t do a full ranking but I think Ohms would land in my top 5 as well. I haven’t listened to Deftones in a while before the last week or so and it’s been giving me tons of nostalgia of late summer/early fall 2020 when I got massively into them.

 

As I revisit Gore for some reason, I’m reminded how cool of a song Doomed User is. It’s heavy, I suppose, yet very different from a typical bruiser Deftones song. The riffs are weirder, the vocal melodies are all over the place, and the song just has a really sloppy, yet agitated vibe.

 

Probably my favorite song from that album

 

Acid Hologram into Doomed User is one of the best 1-2 punches in their catalog

 

Xerces is beautiful

 

Hexagram, it's been too long

 

The Spell of Mathematics really made Ohms click for me, the last 2mins of that track is a pure vibe.

 

This Place Is Death is such a phenomenal closing track man, god damn

 

"The Spell of Mathematics" and "Ohms" are the ones for me on Ohms

 

You ever checked out the Song Exploder episode on the title track?

 

I haven't, but I used to love that podcast - will peep

 

Rick Beato’s breakdown of Minerva is also really cool.

 

Oooh I’ll have to check. I adore the ending riff of that song, such a perfect end to the album.

 

I wish he still primarily focused on content like that instead of rants about why the youth these days have terrible music, etc.
