I'm sure I say this every time the s/t comes up but I miss the occasional guitar-free songs that are now seemingly reserved for side projects. "pink cellphone" can't be the last one lol
I know which interview you're talking about and it's not up anymore. I think Abe was talking about his closing drum fill, which does kinda dribble off, although I think it works. I love Moana. I love how jangly the opening guitar tone is; so un-Deftones. Mainly I love the way the vocal melody descends — from the deranged happy melody when it drops in, to the gloomy croon it ends up at; like trying to give the veneer of happiness before losing the will to pretend anymore.
Yeah I was just looking for it myself and couldn’t find it. Thought it was definitely an interesting interview that ranged from the beginning up through KNY or Gore, I can’t remember exactly. I think Chino and Abe are fairly well-spoken and interesting to listen to. I stumbled across a lengthy interview with Stephen that was posted to YouTube within the last year that I might peep later. I’ve never really sought out anything he has to say, likely for good reason from what I have read and heard, but I’ll report back if he says anything of value
“The record label took a million dollars from us. There was nothing we could do because it was our fault”: How Deftones helped create nu metal – then escaped it
Gore stays underrated, don't care if we've had this conversation 100 times because it's true. There isn't another record in their discography quite like it
I think Ohms in particular will go the way of S/T. Under appreciated in its time, and an undeniable classic a few years from now.
Gore just sounds off compared to the other albums. It's not bad by any means. But Ohms....Ohms has no business being as good as it is.
Enjoyed The Cure using ‘Chrome Onion’ as the obscure anagram for Chino Moreno in their remix album promo. Chrome Onion absolutely feels like a rejected Deftones song title.
