    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

Even Bored is a great opener

Hole in the Earth makes me feel like I’m walking on air, supremely perfect opener and maybe a top 5 most quintessential Deftones song

They really do have the all-time best openers. Bored, My Own Summer, Feiticeira (even though I grew up hearing Back To School first), Hexagram, Hole In the Earth, Diamond Eyes, Swerve City, Prayers/Triangles, Genesis.

    that’s unreal.

The most frustrating thing about them is Damone hasn't been separated from MX on ATF--obv that's a label thing vs them but still. That song is such a banger. Also, Lovers still not on streaming.

I've probably waxed poetic in here about the band before, but I really have them to credit for expanding my horizons beyond what was on the radio. I was 12, and was listening to Creed, Default, Hoobastank, and Audioslave, and whatever else was on the alt-rock radio station at the time. My older brother's best friend had a HUGE binder full of CDs (that's how I measured how cool someone was) and one day he let me pick out an album to borrow. I have no idea why I picked White Pony, or maybe he nudged me towards it, but that's what I chose.

I always went to my grandparent's house for a week in the summers, and I remember being bored and looking through my CDs and trying to decide what to listen to. For some reason, White Pony was the answer that day, and I thought it was... odd. I hadn't heard anything like it, and wasn't sure if I liked it, but SOMETHING kept me coming back. My first couple times giving it a shot, I don't think I made it to the back half of the album, but the first time I heard Passenger, it blew my mind. I remember listening to it on repeat that week, just with my clip-on headphones hooked up to my portable CD player. Looking back on it now, I think it's the first time I ever let an album "grow" on me, and didn't listen based on first impressions alone. It truly shaped my entire relationship with music, and I really don't think I'd have the music tastes I have today if it wasn't for that guy giving me White Pony back in '03.

They have the greatest B-Sides too.

The Boys Republic is consistently one of my favorite songs of theirs.

always assumed the cover of the edition with "Boy's Republic" on it, with the track lengths but no titles, was a cute and sly Hum reference.

As long as we're talking openers.....I actually love mini maggit lol, right up there with wilco's "can't stand it" in the category of "songs the label forced onto the album but it owns anyway"

Hah, I do too. Just shows they could have easily gone that route and dominated but chose not to.

His vocal delivery on the bridge where he sings "All you are" is so good.

They've announced 2 x gigs in the UK next Summer and I've managed to snag tickets (For Halifax, Yorkshire). Unbelievably hyped... Unfortunately blessed with friends who don't like 'my type of music'.... So need to find someone who will come with me

    hmmm

I was listening to Daniel P Carter's weekly rock show on BBC Radio 1 last week and, after playing a Deftones track, he mentioned that he'd met some of the band towards the end of last year (he knows them pretty well). Without sharing any specifics, he said he got told how excited they are about the new album — hard leaning on the how, seeming to imply a specific statement — which got him really pumped to hear it.

I usually prefer to have as few expectations as possible for an album but the early signs are that they've particularly enjoyed making this new one.

Went through my old CD collection and realized I own 4 Deftones albums (ATF, White Pony, SNW, and S/T), so I ended up doing a big'ol Deftones discography deep dive over the past couple weeks.

    My main takeaways....

1.) Saturday Night Wrist is so fucking good and consistent. I think it has Chino's most beautiful vocal melodies. It's their most underrated album and probably my 2nd favorite overall.

2.) Ohms is the shit. This album has no business being as good as it is. It makes me so excited to see what they do next.

3.) Diamond Eyes has so many bangers on it. Rocket Skates, CMND/CNTRL, Title Track, Royal...to name a few.

4.) Koi No Yokan remains king of Deftones albums for me.

I was there! When they started playing Passenger I damn near passed out. Or maybe it was because I hung out for a few hours trying to get close. Probably a combination of both. Anyway they sounded amazing and I'm so glad that out of all the sets to get immortalized on YouTube with solid audio quality it's that one

What's the general consensus on Gore in this community?

I don't think it's bad, I just think something is missing from it. Also, the production seems a bit off for some reason.

Other than that, I really enjoy the vibe and atmosphere of the album. Doomed User and Gore are great.

Gore's production is weird, not just you. I like a lot of the songs, but Steph wasn't very engaged for that one, and it shows.

i have a soft spot for Gore as it was the first Deftones album i heard, but i agree something does feel a bit off in places. but the songs that are good are REALLY good.
