It’s kinda weird to see them there, but it also makes total sense. I hope they do some Coachella side shows
Is it weird for me to think that if they drop an album 2024 could be the biggest year for Deftones? TikTok has helped put them in a prime position to absolutely blast off even higher than they have been if that makes sense.
100%. I know I’ve said it on here before, but their resurgence via TikTok the past couple years has been absolutely bonkers
I had no idea they'd blown up on TikTok, and i'm there daily. Apparently it was "Cherry Waves" that blew up and lots of younger kids are listening to them now. Good for them. It would be wild if they played the full Moda Center next tour. They played a smaller section of it called "Theatre of the Clouds" in 2022.
you know I saw 3 Deftones shirts at Disney last year and was like what the hell is going on lol guess it connects now. awesome for them.
Deftones 2024 tour would be great. Thinking about going to see Crosses live next month. Their new album was my AOTY 2023. Just picked up a copy on vinyl this weekend as well as Permanent Radiant EP.
I'm also debating on attending Crosses in March. I'm betting they're great live and i'd love to hear them live.
I mentioned this a few days ago in another thread but was listening to them today on Spotify and was blown away they have 10 million monthly listeners. Not sure what exactly counts towards that number but that number blew me away. I know they’re a beloved band that’s been around for 2+ decades but damn, that’s a huge number.
They hovered around 3-3.5 million for years, and then I guess a few songs blew up on TikTok. I was sceptical as to whether it would just be a brief fad based on a few playlist songs but it does appear to have genuinely caught on culturally amongst Gen Zers. The figure's still heavily based on playlists — I mean, Wheatus with their one song have 7 million a month, and Tool, who are obviously bigger than both of them, languish with a 'mere' 4 million — but 10 million is huge. And there's no new album inflating that figure.
Someone on Reddit said he had a conversation with Chino before a Crosses show last week. Apparently Deftones have completed the music for the next album and only his vocals are left to do.
I was just thinking the other day what the status on new music is. It occurred to me that Ohms was released almost 4 years ago now. Wtf
I was about to say last quarter of the year. Stef said the other week that the album was sounding huge, they were all really enjoying themselves, and he is expecting everyone else to when they hear it.
the vocals still needing to be done reminds me of the SNW era and bob ezrin talking shit in the press to try to get chino in the booth. good times!
Just need Chino’s vocals - a tale as old as time. That said, it’s encouraging news. I am definitely not expecting this before Quarter 4 of the year now either.
