I recently learned there are some folks who think clouds are all planted there in the night by planes. At that point, it's just like....sure. your reality sounds kind of fanciful, go for it. Anyway my only Deftones hot take is that Around the Fur has a few undeniable bangers but is for me eclipsed by almost everything else they did after up to KNY (which now sounds to me like maybe their non-White Pony peak for now)
This website makes no sense and is incredibly inconsistent with accountability. Do not support morons pedaling conspiracy theories. There is a very real chance his ignorance doesn’t stop there and because he’s in your favorite band, this thread is just willing to be like “yeah it’s fine as long as….” no.
Yert, it took a 3 second google search to find an interview with Chino where it’s confirmed he’s also anti-vax and that the band doesn’t agree with his views. Said he’s a huge pothead that goes of on tangents with “outlandish shit.” I’m good.
When it comes to accountability, I often ask myself, is this person dumb, evil, or some combination of the two. Some anti-vax people have agendas and harmful views, but in a lot of cases, I just think they're dumb as hell. You want people to stop listening to Deftones because their guitarist decided not to get vaccinated? It's not exactly 1:1 with, say, sexual assault, racism, transphobia, etc. Sorry, but it's not.
Also, what do you mean by inconsistent with accountability? This website is not a monolith and we literally talk about people having different lines and comfort levels every day. I don't know why it's surprising that most people don't want to stop listening to a beloved band because one member doesn't trust science or whatever lol
I am far more concerned about politicians being anti-vax than bands. I'm not surprised Steph is anti-vax considering he literally thinks the Earth has edges. And that idiocy isn't going to stop me from listening to the band. I will never take him seriously as a person, but the music they make is outside of that. (to me at least). (Aaron basically said all of this but much better)
Yeah I mean again, y’all are cool with cutting corners on the artists you favor. Happens all the time here and the majority of this site generally shared the same viewpoints on willful ignorance. If Stephen Carpenter didn’t write Deftones music, you’d tell this guy to fuck off. Be more consistent with your views. The “he’s harmless” argument doesn’t work for me.
I feel like you make these arguments consistently and I'm wondering if you've ever thought about just taking a step back to breathe. Can't be good for you to be this upset all the time.
One thing I'm consistent on is not giving a shit about what someone on the internet feels I need to think about something.
If you don't like that people are human and struggle with giving more leeway to people who make art they like, I don't know what to tell you lol that's not just this website with everything going on in my life and the world at large, I simply don't have it in my to care that a guitarist thinks the Earth is flat
I vehemently disagree with him on how we are treating this whole thing with Steph but let’s please not start piling on
I do think chorus gives a little more leeway to favorable artists, but it's because this is an equation that (consciously or unconsciously) is always a scale weighed on one side with "how much do I like the band" and "how bad is the thing the member did".
This is probably true frankly but also people were pissed at Steph during Covid, you can see that in this very thread. I think it’s willfully ignorant to say that everyone gave him/the band a pass
