I wonder if Gore will ever undergo a revision in the way SNW seems to have done in recent years. I don't know but it does have a standalone sound to it, for better or for worse, and there's a lot of quality there. I think Pittura Infamante rules. It's all about the mid breakdown where Chino whips out a richly soaked Björk-like melody, and the riff competing for attention launches the whole thing into the sky.
I live KNY. Rosemary is one of their best songs. Entombed, Tempest, and What Happened to You are among my favorites they’ve done too. I like Gore, but it hasn’t held up as well for me over time. I love the first two songs and the last three, but everything in the middle is good, not great, to me.
The last three tracks on Gore is a pretty incredible stretch. Not big on the rest of the album, but phew, the way they close it out...
love them and they can do what they like but personally I would just like them to experiment with guitar-free stuff once in a while again....maybe more collaborations would be nice too
Curious when we will get a new album from them. Would also love a fall tour, but Im assuming they are only doing festivals this summer until new record comes out. Maybe spring 2024 album and tour
I would rank it probably as #1 most days. That album got me into the Deftones again after not really following up on their stuff after White Pony. Now Im an even bigger fan and KNY was what got me to really open my eyes to Deftones. I enjoy every single album now. Own every one of their albums on vinyl too
Gore didn’t get as much love from me because it’s good, but did not feel like it topped KNY which felt like an incredible advancement of their sound and songwriting.
I would argue that production aside, Gore attempting new sounds seems to be part of the reason it's polarizing
Probably not until late 2024 at the earliest. They always take their time once they're in writing/recording mode and they haven't really mentioned any further plans yet.
New interview on YouTube with Stef where he says they're working on a new album with Nick Raskulinecz, with a prospective release of spring/summer '24. It doesn't sound like they're in a full recording phase yet but he says they've been working on stuff since February. A couple of interesting tidbits that he's using the same tuning as Koi No Yokan, and he's thinking that this time he's going to try to go back and do some more guitar layering, maybe some lead parts, after Chino's done with his vocals.
I’d love for them to work with Terry Date again, but DE and KNY are two of my favorite albums of all time so I’m definitely not disappointed that they’re going back to Nick.
I vastly prefer Date’s production for this band, personally. but I am sure it will be good nonetheless, it’s not like Nick is bad at his job or anything. was slightly hoping that they’d continue working with Date after Ohms.
Maybe Date lives too far away from Steph and he’s afraid of falling of the edge of the Earth trying to get to him.
I’m forever a Date fan and put all his albums above the others. Oh well, it’s not like they made bad albums with Nick.
