:D Idk I just love how dark and moody S/T is. I've managed to listen to all the albums now, S/T, Gore, and WP definitely rank the highest but god damn I could for the life of me find a bad song in the bunch
I'm always envious at how easily you get into music, haha. I take so long to really start to like a band or even an album.
lol. when something hits it hits hard. do you like these guys? i think you would. they remind me A LOT of Fightstar
I do like them and yeah they're Charlie's favourite band and I can definitely hear a ton of influence from them in Fightstar. I've never got to the point where I love them though although there are a fair few songs I love, mostly the more mellow stuff. I think Chino has such a great voice and interesting sense of melody but it doesn't always work for me. I still need to listen to Gore though, I do enjoy the single a lot.
If that's the case, Saturday Night Wrist and Koi No Yokan would probably be your favorites imo... idk how much you've listened to their discography.
I haven't listened to SNW yet but I like Koi No Yokan a lot. "Entombed" is probably my favourite song of theirs. I think Diamond Eyes is my favourite album.
Since you prefer their mellow songs, you should definitely check out SNW! "Beware", "Xerces" and "Rivière" are some of the softest (and best) songs they've put out.
oh i didnt know they were ol Charlies fav. makes sense, very large influence. glad you dig em though.
Everything they've done from SNW onwards is probably my favorite music they've made. They've definitely embraced their ambient side more.
Will do. It was actually the first album of theirs I downloaded to try because I liked the name of it but I never listened to it, haha. Yeah I remember Fightstar did some interview with a magazine where they all talked about their favourite album and they all made so much sense and were clearly visible influences. Charlie's was White Pony.
Yes, oh my God. Been ranting about it and annoying the hell out of my friends for as long as I can remember. Also, the love in this thread is seriously making my week; seeing everyone's thoughts on their stellar discography is awesome. These guys deserved to be so much bigger than the bands they came up with, but it's truly better in the end that their body of work outclassed and outlasted everyone else's.
So frustrating to hear/see them referred to that way. This record just seems to be getting better and better with each listen. As of right now, it's probably my fourth favorite 'tones album. Though I could definitely see it rising over time.
SNW to me is the only misstep this band has taken i know others enjoy it, just a personal feeling obviously
Beware and Riviere are both brilliant songs. I think SNW's their most disjointed record (and probably their least good) but Beware is in my top ten Deftones tracks. It's such a beautiful song up right up until the outro, which is crushingly heavy. What a song!
It's really awesome how this band has something for everyone... someone like me can think SNW is easily in their Top 3 and that the self-titled is possibly the weakest, but you can think the exact opposite. I think that comes from them never putting out a weak album.
Exactly, their consistency is unbelievable quite honestly. I mean, White Pony's my favourite album of all time but everything they've ever made is either great or very good. A lot of SNW was written while they were barely communicating with each other and it still holds up really well. For a band to be this far into their career and to have their worst record (IMO) to still be an 8/10 is amazing.
