This album. Everything about it. The music, the atmosphere, and especially the lyrics really came at the right moment in my life. Going through a reeeeal tough time and the lyrical content covers heartache, resentment, and rebirth. I didn't really think I was going to like this album at first but it's a classic in my opinion.
I tend to have a Stephen Carpenter-like mindset when it comes to a preference for the more "metal" elements of the band. I'll never get a White Pony pt. 2 and I've accepted that. However, the growth in sound with each release is such a respectable quality that I feel no true Deftones fan could throw shade at them. (L)MIRL, Gore, Rubicon, and Phantom Bride are just such fantastic songs. Also just want to state my appreciation for the existence of this thread haha. Being the only person in my friend group who digs this band gets so old.
Also, does anyone else get irked when people call them "the" Deftones? I like to think of it as a way of strengthening the impact of the name because they're so badass but it really drives me nuts lol
I've just spent the last like 4 hours revisiting most of their discography, and I'm almost approaching Gore, which I'll probably be listening to for the first time in the early hours of the morning. Should be fun!
Goddammit xD, I was gonna go to bed after finishing Koi No Yokan and save Gore for tomorrow, but now idk...
I think Koi No Yokan may honestly be my favorite as of right now having not heard Gore yet, but it's honestly so hard to pick. Every album has something different to love.
Almost done with my first listen and I love how the album finishes. The last four songs are my favorites. I like just fine on first listen, but it's not blowing me away and that's ok. I need more time and listens though to accurately say where I think it stacks up in their discography. Good album though for sure.
I love the last little bit from Pittura Infamante into Xenon Xenon is one of my favorites thus far after repeated listens The title track slays of course
Phantom Bride and Rubicon are stellar songs. What an amazing way to finish another great record. Deftones are definitely a one of a kind band.
Rubicon Acid Hologram Gore Phantom Bride Geometric Headdress Pittura Infamante Hearts/Wires Xenon (L)MIRL Prayers/Triangles Doomed User that was hard
I honestly think now that the albums from Saturday Night Wrist onward are my favorites. As much as I love White Pony, the later albums just have such a great mix of sounds.
S/T has a lot of great tracks imo but I think it works the least well as a full album. For me Saturday Night Wrist and everything after is pretty superior.
