I had to sell my tickets to this tour (no babysitter) and I can't believe they are playing Lovers. What bad luck. Ah well, hopefully there are some good recordings.
Thinking about Atlanta the same. I've already requested a lot of days off in May so going for this may be a stretch. Then again all I need is just to be off by 3pm that day...... Seeing Gojira again would also be dope. Yeah only 2 from Ohms is a bit of a bummer. Spell of Mathematics would be a treat. However, I haven't seen them live since SNW tour, so I'd be getting a lot of stuff I had never seen. (Lovers is so out of left field I love it)
I'm hoping they heard a lot of praise when Stephen did that Lovers play through video a few months back, and maybe they'll finally put it up on streaming sites soon--if it gets the reaction it deserves live.
Yep. They were already a year late and something like a million over budget. Edit: They were actually fined a million dollars for being late! That's crazy.
Doesn't mean the song was written yet. No idea if it's true but that's the only reason I've seen put forward for it not making the cut.
Incidentally, I'm glad the album didn't end up being called that. It's kind of funny that of all the albums, that one ended up being self-titled, but Lovers is too on the nose for a Deftones title.
S/T has always felt like a perfect example of a “self-titled” record to me. there’s not another album, by them or otherwise, that truly feels or sounds quite like it to me, but at the same time it always feels like the perfect representation of the essence of the band; the marriage of heavy and beautiful, etc. also, used to lament Lovers not making the cut because I love it and there’s a couple S/T cuts I think it bests, however have also struggled to figure out where I’d place it on the record. used to wish Moana was cut and they’d used Lovers as the closer, but tbh as much as I think Moana is the weaker song I do think it has more of the feel and aura of a closer to that record than Lovers would have.
As someone who got into the band around Diamond Eyes era, I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard Lovers actually! Was it officially released ever or is it just like a demo that fans have passed around over the years?
It was released as a b-side on the Hexagram single back in 2003. It’s not available on streaming platforms anywhere, but you can find it on YouTube
Don't think so, I have that album and I've never heard Lovers. Unless it was called something different?
