His feel on Phantom Bride is nice, especially in the chorus when he does that triplet groove on the hi hat
I see people include What Happened To You, but I’m pretty sure those notes that sound like a cross-stick on the rim of the snare are actually from Frank not Abe. I’ll have to watch a live video to be sure, but I’m pretty sure I saw one where Abe didn’t play well those notes in the verses and just rode the hi hat until the chorus
Yeah, Mein is nowhere near my list of favorite Deftones songs, but Abe absolutely slays on that track

As a drummer, I’ve always admired how Abe can write such creative and impactful parts in metal music without using a double bass pedal. I’m pretty sure the only song he uses one on is When Girls Telephone Boys. I’ve had friends over the years asking or even telling me to get a double bass pedal and I’ve personally always shied away from one because it’s not my style. Listening to Deftones, and specifically Abe, always challenges me to be a better drummer.
He uses it occasionally but usually only for a quick double kick or flam. Abe's ability to create tension and then release it is so great. Little change-ups, displacements, but keeping it powerful and dynamic at the same time.
Right, but you can do those quick double kicks with a single pedal. It's just a simple roll with the heel and ball/toe of your foot.
