Feel like Rapture needs a mention in this convo as well. I think production holds it back but it's a pretty fucking brutal song.
Minerva is great. I love the wall of sound the guitars create. Same reason I love Battle Axe so much. Both are so big or heavy, just not in aggressive ways.
One thing I have always appreciated about Abe is his creativity and restraint on the bass drum. Hardly ever uses double pedal and doesn't necessarily lock in with the guitar like a ton of other heavy bands. Gives so much life to the songs.
Abe is definitely one of the more creative drummers I’ve listened to. He adds a lot of unique flourishes to songs (The way he pings the bell of the ride in the second verse of Good Morning Beautiful comes to mind). He has interesting ways of doing fills as well and I love the way he’ll end sections at times before going into new ones. He creates a sense of urgency in his playing style. There’s a pretty cool video on YouTube of a drummer explaining and showing how great of a drummer Abe is. Plus, there are Digital Bath and Passenger, which are all you really need to know about how awesome he is.
