Yeah I mean I have issues with the production but I wouldn’t say they aren’t well-produced in the slightest.
I would say Diamond Eyes is their best sounding album to me but I also don't know the first thing about good production.
Despite being 18 years old and maybe a little dated I think White Pony is their best sounding album to this point. Self titled and SNW are also really good though and none are that bad except Adrenaline
White Pony is the best produced rock/metal album ever. Ever ever ever. There's a reason so many sound engineers test a room with Digital Bath.
I think Stef has done his best work on six and seven strings, but I'm hoping he really cranks out the riffs on this next one. I remember hearing that he was a lot more involved this time around. I think with the eight he's had a tendency to rely heavily on the low end chug.
Aside from vocals I think DE sounds immaculate and the vocal thing is totally preference. I like the vocals on KNY a lot more
I don't think the last few albums sound bad. They certainly don't ruin the albums for me. I just find DE and KNY blisteringly loud at times and I think some of their earlier albums capture the atmosphere and air to their sound much better thanks to Date and whoever produced SNW. Gore is muddy as hell, but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as it did a few years ago.
Easily the Deftones album I listen to the most at this point and I will say that there is more and more I love about Stef and his riffs on this album the more I listen to it. Hoping for more of those from him on the next album.
It’s always been my favorite. The riffs are just too good. You’ve seen the butcher is my favorite tones song
Butcher is high up there for me. That album has one of my favorite riffs on the album, along with the main riff to Diamond Eyes, the main riff to Rocket Skates, the end riff of Royal, and that low end, chugging riff in Prince
