Deftones, Converge, and Lip Critic for me. Everyone else is a big "who cares" imo (except for The Neighbourhood, that's a massive error on Deftones' part).
it does give further incentive to pirate eros though lmao. any once of bad i felt about listening to it got erased by reminding myself these guys do not make good decisions a lot of the time but yeah, yuck
Diving into Eros. I was never a fan of Melanie but the studio version reveals its true potential. Guess live rips from that time combined with Chino's hit or miss live vocals didn't make the best impression back then.
Destiny is beautiful. Very Minerva with that shoegazey vibe. Brenda sounds like it'd go off live, such a wide, cinematic feel to the chorus.
Not big on everything else so far but Trempest is another highlight, as evil-ish sounding as I expected from the studio diaries. Not unlike what Will Haven ended up doing years later on their sludgiest work. It's pretty clear that some vocals are placeholders and that the little synth work that can be heard sounds like it's done with stock instruments at times.
A shame Diamond seems to be the most unfinished on the vocal front as it has one of my favorite instrumentals out of the whole thing. Interesting that Briana's chorus is rumored to be Kurt Travis, as I initially thought it was Emanuel's singer. Their second album, also produced by Terry Date and heavily influenced by Deftones, dropped while Eros was being worked on so now I'm curious to find out who it actually is, if it ever gets confirmed... These particular vocals also reminds me of Eightfourseven, another Deftones influenced band from Sacramento btw
That’s interesting. I’ve never heard of either of those bands, but now I’m gonna listen to them tonight and compare what I hear to the vocals of Briana lol. Although, this also means I’m gonna have to listen to DGD…
I think Crisp is onto something… Checking out eightfourseven rn and their vocalist definitely sounds like whoever is singing on Briana. I did some further digging, and their singer is none other than Lance Jackman, who’s been Deftones’ touring guitarist since 2022…
i gave this another listen and i really think its spectacular. diamond eyes tbh is an album ive always felt a little cold to and it seems like that one has established a template they built off of the whole decade. this is just so much more in step with what made them connect with me. truly a dream for anyone whos favorite album of theirs is saturday night wrist
A quick Google search yielded a post in the Deftones Subreddit from four years ago where someone shared one of their songs and mentioning that it was Lance’s old band. It also looks like they toured with them during the Diamond Eyes era. But yeah, I’m assuming that since they were a local Sac band and Jack had further band connections, it’s him on the track. But I could also be 100% wrong and thinking about this way too hard (what else is new?) (It’s also been a really slow week at work and I have nothing better to do lol)

Do you have the name of his band(s)? I'm interested in hearing more. Clearly, it seems like there's such a cool music scene in Sac
Just hit play on Eros. I don’t know why but Destiny sounds like something The Early November would’ve written in their later years
Destiny’s gotta be my favorite out of the bunch. Of it sounds as incredible as it does there, I could only imagine what it’d sound like fully mixed and mastered. It’s easily becoming a top Deftones song for me
It looks like his only band, aside from Deftones was eightfourseven. I know he was affiliated with a band named horseneck, but it looks like he only produced them. So I don’t think other examples of his vocals are out there
What the hell after all this time i didn't realize he was in Eightfourseven, even after I namedropped them the other day lmao. I didn't recognize him... but to be fair their last album is almost 20 years old (it hurts)
