Unless there is truly some super obvious ones in there (and idek what I would use as an example) there’s no way I’d get any of them right lol. 1 second is just way too short for me to guess probably any song by any artist
You’ve seen the butcher is my favorite song by them by a huge margin and I never would’ve gotten that right in a million years
I listened to the first three for shits and giggles and anyone who says they got any right with just that tiny sound clip, I don't know why you feel the need to lie about this. Get help.
I got the first 3 pretty easily and then paused the video, gonna do it with my girlfriend the next time I’m with her in case I get them all right and nobody believes me so I have someone to back me up. Could get tripped up on a couple of Adrenaline songs but I have enough banked hours of Deftones in my brain I think I can get at least 90%
Why would I lie about getting some right? 5 and 6 are pretty obvious to me. I've listened to those two songs in particular many, many times.
I got 17/21 btw. Tripped up a bit towards the end. And a few of them I did listen to more than the allocated two plays.
I'm mostly joking, although being able to tell what any song is from a clip that is barely a complete guitar riff is absolutely mental to me. If it was three seconds, that's more of a sporting chance.
I’ve been listening to their entire discog on repeat for the last few weeks and I’m confident I would not get a single one right. Great band, consistent to a fault lol
After listening a little more to Ohms, I’ve decided I really dislike how Chino sounds on that album. Don’t know who is responsible, but yeah…
he sounds better on private music for sure, especially in terms of how he’s placed in the mix. I’d also have to guess that Nick probably uses more tuning in his vocal processing, whereas Terry seems to prefer a more raw and in your face sound (warts and all). I think that approach worked better for their original run with him, and I generally prefer how Chino sounds on those records to anything post-S/T, but I think it was less successful for Ohms, on the whole. I also just think since Chino has been in a healthier place and is sober now, his voice has been stronger than it’s been in a long time, so private music has the benefit of that. I will say, however, I personally found Chino’s lyrics much more compelling on Ohms overall than I do on private music.
All about the closer on this now. That one and ITAYATT were the ones I didn't click with as much in the beginning.
Listening to this on CD with flat EQ through headphones was a revelation. Don't know what was wrong with the supposed flac files I had but it was a revelation to hear it all in proper form without the harshness or mud. Could mention things from every song at this stage but no one wants to read that. But it occurred to me that this album feels like they used the bright, hefty, semi-existential optimism from the title track on Ohms as fuel for a full creative endeavour; obviously not an intentional choice, but the themes and general feelings are similar and expanded upon. Souvenir is the only one that still doesn't quite hit for me — it gets a little squashed and never quite soars, which every song before it does — but it's still eminently listenable. Chino's osmosis melodies...I do not know how he still does it. The guy is seriously one of the best melody writers ever. In any form of music.
Comic writer Bryan Edward Hill once pitched Chino to do a Bond theme due to how sexy his voice is and I think his melodies are totally a factor in that.
Agreed that Souvenir is the weakest track on here. Meanwhile, I cannot find the words to express how much I love cXz. Man, oh man.
