Am I hearing things? It sounds like Chino can be heard faintly screaming the last word of lines on the verses of cXz. Can anyone else confirm?

Ok still haven’t spent a lot of time with this due to work being insane. We’re in AZ visiting family and I’m finally able to take this all in. Souvenir has grown on me the most actually. Chino is absolutely locked in on that track and the outro is so sick.

this is their best album for my tastes. its immense. the mixing/processing of chinos vocals is as good as it can get imo. this is like sludge shoegaze or something.

locked club is a fucking vibe.

I'm sure I've said it before but that secondary chorus part (I can feel it) is just so so good.

I still haven’t spent as much time with this album as I’d like, I’ve been on a huge Mastodon kick since the Brent Hinds news. Going to have a few beers tonight and really sit down with this.

I spun the self titled and Ohms today. S/T is great but part of me was always a little surprised / disappointed that they didn’t get even weirder as the follow up to White Pony but out of the context of remembering it followed White Pony it’s of course great.

Ohms continues to somewhat allude me. Weird analogy, but I feel like I’m listening to the album from the other side of a window or from another room. I hear it, I enjoy it, but it just doesn’t click for me, I’m not as immersed in it as much as other albums. There are moments and it’s not a bad album but for some reason it just doesn’t work for me like most of the rest of their albums do

idk… I feel like S/T absolutely is weirder, and at the very least much less accessible than WP. also darker and much, much heavier and bleak sounding.

I still like Ohms more than this album at the moment, personally. don’t quite feel the way you do about Ohms about this one but I do feel like the hype might have gotten to me a little bit. still a great record and it continues to grow on me but it hasn’t quite excited me the way Ohms did when that dropped.

  24. Agree with darker and more bleak, less so with weirder and less accessible.

Ohms is a good record with some really high highs, but I agree that there is always something -- almost undefinable -- that gets in the way of me fully loving it. I think it could honestly be expectations, because here, "my mind is a mountain" lowered my expectations substantially, but that track has since grown on me and this feels very immediate. I know things take time to settle/grow, but I have to agree with the earlier comment about this, Diamond Eyes, and White Pony all carrying a certain energy that feels "breakthrough" or "revitalized"

  25. The thing that's nice about talking about this band, though, is that even my bottom three from them -- Adrenaline, SNW, and Ohms? -- range from like, a 7-8 minimum for me. So even when I talk about certain things not working for me, they're still light criticisms of very enjoyable/good records
