I need more people to understand why I'm making the Cherry Waves comparison because I don't know how else to explain it. The "we ride" bit, totally makes me feel exactly like I do when "the waves suck" comes in on Waves. So good.
souvenir for sure reminds me the most of ohms of anything here, almost feels like it shares some dna with headless. i personally see this as a good thing, headless is amazing
I mean I do kinda understand how that would be the case. to me it just reminds me of what he’s doing earlier on the record in locked club with the high “feel it” part, sounds like the same exact notes to me even. also the end of Error comes to mind too, the “kept trying/nothing” part.
This is my thing with it, that it sounds TOO much like Ohms, and it makes me think the whole time, "this sounds like a song on Ohms but I can't remember which one". Pink Cellphone made me dislike SNW a whole lot more than I should have when it was first out, haha.
I mentioned how optimistic the tone of this felt to me when I first listened...just got the vinyl and the picture with the sign that says ACCEPT THE GOOD paired with how sweet their thank yous are in the liner notes really emphasizes that to me. They seem happier as a band than they have in over a decade, and that makes me happy!
I think about you all the time by Deftones > I think about you all the time by Field Medic > I think about you all the time by The Maine all pretty good though
the only misstep on SNW really is Pink Cellphone to me, I either like or love every other song in it. I also will actually defend the production on that one too, not perfect, but so much better than it should be given how fractured the group was at the time and how many issues they had specifically in recording it. the drums sound great on that record and I think Chi cuts through in that mix better than most of their other records. helps that both of them are delivering career high performances too of course. I personally have more issues with how basically any record after it sounds than I do with it lol, but I am sure most here would think I am crazy for that. if I had to pick which single album this reminds me most of, I do think I would go with Diamond Eyes, and this is a large part of why. it doesn’t sound exactly like DE, there’s plenty on here that sounds nothing like most of that record. but it’s the spirit, the optimism, the exuberance that I feel it more than anything. it is great that they seem to be in such a good place right now.
I've never had a problem with how SNW sounds, it's perfect for how dark and self-reflective the music is
I haven't listened to this yet still (been a crazy busy week) so I think I'm gonna correct this tomorrow.
trying to get to the bottom of this, but the band's merch support team is indicating that there might've been a production delay for some orders/items, and that my numbered copy is now slated to ship September 26 (even though they say this mainly impacts merch, and that music titles would ship "as scheduled", which clearly isn't the case since everyone else seems to have gotten theirs already)
It's funny, I was just thinking last night how interesting it would be to hear them do something quieter again, like the verses from "Digital Bath." It seems they've settled in the middle somewhere after self-titled; still riffy, but definitely more alt-rock-adjacent than the heavy (and eventually, experimental) vibes they were doing on those first four-five records. I'm glad I have Deftones records for whatever mode I'm feeling depending on the day.
100 percent. I think they are at their best when they make songs like Lovers, Battle Axe, Lhabia, etc., but I’m not mad about this newer style.
