TikTok, really. There’s been a lot of late 90’s/early 2000’s nostalgia happening right now in music and pop culture (Korn and Limp Bizkit also have had successful resurgences too), so when some of their songs made it onto TikToks, the re-blew up. And big too. A lot of indie/shoegaze acts have blown up again thanks to TikTok too (Duster, MBV and Slowdive all come to mind). Since Deftones have a foot in both areas, it makes sense that a lot of the younger crowd latched on to them. And honestly? It’s kind of awesome. Out of all bands, they absolutely deserve it. They are innovators and have consistently great albums.
Yeah, still waiting on Urban Outfitters to ship just so that they can still put out an (arguably) top five album of their career nearly 30 years in. I know people want to let it sit before making judgement calls but I'm just so enamored with this thing
Every song on here ranges from enjoy to love for me but probably my least fav so far is I Think About You which sounds like Gore to me; and then I read in the Kerrang story that Chino wrote that one front to back and was like ah yep
I think eventually every song will become a favorite for me. Any album I've ever loved has taken a similar path, and I can feel it(!) with this one too.
Did anyone end posting a link of the livestream? Don't need all 4 hours but the final live set would be cool to have.
It’s the deluxe. Sounds great. But the deluxe booklet is just the standard except instead of 4 images on a page they are the full size. And lyrics broken up across multiple pages instead of on 2 pages. Not really worth the extra money unfortunately.
cXz reads like it’s about Alzheimer’s, or just getting older and losing clarity about the past. Kind of beautiful to me the way he writes about it.
Loving this album, it’s truly amazing that they sound like themselves on every record yet always pull off new sounds on every record. The end of Cut Hands is massive, reminds me of the end of Rosemary, and I love how Chino kicks the song off, he’s doing so much cool stuff throughout
Starting to get a sneaking suspicion that those five songs they played during the finale are going to be new additions to the setlist this fall
Metal dreams is such a cool song. Kinda hip-hop, kinda rock with tons of super weird dissonant chords being played everywhere.
