Gonna try to do this but it's so arbitrary. White Pony Diamond Eyes Koi No Yokan Around The Fur S/T Saturday Night Wrist Ohms Gore Adrenaline
They are both good songs but 976 clears Sextape. Also I think it's hilarious how so many people say Ohms is the best album since Koi No Yokan as if there was more than one album that came out between them and it wasn't the most negatively viewed work from the band at that point. Very silly. Anyways I need this song like I need air
I had never thought of it this way but it makes a lot of sense. WP and KNY are my two favorites and I never quite got why so many loved DE so much (I like it, but it felt like a "back to basics" album that easily got bested by KNY for me) and I think this helps me understand the place of those albums.
Occasionally going back to basics isn't a bad thing when it's being executed by the absolute best in the biz (feel like Diamond Eyes also incorporates more melody and nods to shoegaze than the albums surrounding it, so it's not like it's just basics imo)
Whoops I forgot about Gore lol Not saying that's indicative of what I think of that album, I really really like it!
Koi No Yokan and Diamond Eyes were the first two that really clicked for me. I just prefer that sound to White Pony (which I still love) and Around the Fur (good with some great songs but doesn’t click with me like it does for others).
I remember the Diamond Eyes review in Alternative Press was the first I was ever aware of the band, but my brother gave me CD copies of White Pony and S/T, which was the first I'd ever actually heard them. I remember thinking they sounded like 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park because those were my points of reference at the time, except 1000x times better lol. Really changed my attitude towards metal and heavy music as a whole.
Chino’s lyrics are so on brand throughout these teasers they almost seem like AI generated Deftones lyrics. Not an insult, just amusing. Negative space in cycles been caught on our radar, we've been waiting here patiently locked in this state clocking our time, why do we bathe in this psyche? remain calm in our mental we display it in our patience locked in this stage plotting our time The first line totally reminds me of Tempest’s chorus: Turning in circles been caught in a stasis The ancient arrival cut to the end
I was gonna say the teased lyrics are like if you mixed the lyrics to like Tempest and Genesis and Ohms together or something.
Sometimes it spooks me that as much time passed between today and Diamond Eyes as between that album and Adrenaline Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan don't feel old to me at all
Risky to infer that a new bassist is an official member in this band but it is interesting that Fred is appearing in band photos (but not Lance).
When Stef isn't there, yeah. I mean, I wouldn't expect Lance to be in the promo photos but I presumed it would be just the four of them so it's interesting that Fred seems to have elevated into that position.
He was there when I saw them in February, along with Stef. He was sort of positioned behind some cabs. At least I'm pretty sure it was him.
I feel like Chino took a leap vocally with the latest Crosses releases. I'm excited to hear what he brings to this record.
What other bands do you like and what songs from Deftones have you enjoyed in the past out of curiosity?
