Pretty cool New York Times interview (a couple of errors aside). https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/20/arts/music/deftones-private-music.html
I listened once yesterday, but I think I honestly want a bit more time with it before I really give too many thoughts on it.
I listened to the leak on Monday and absolutely loved the album. Forced myself to stop until release and it’s kind of exciting because I’m beginning to forget how the newer songs sound. Foaming at the mouth to jump back in.
Really cool new Kerrang feature interview with Abe and Chino. Some interesting details Deftones: “A lot more people are expecting things from us… | Kerrang!
Vocal delivery on the verses of "locked club" might be the only thing I'm not 100% sold on yet also kind of think "souvenir" is good, but not unique in a way all of the other tracks are to me
Pretty much love at first listen for me lol. Wish they played some of these songs when I saw them earlier this year ecdysis is probably my favorite at the moment
I'd be really bummed if all these songs just got locked away in the deep cuts vault and never got played live.
Obvious solution is longer sets. They're a bonafide arena band on this side of the world too now, a few extra songs sprinkled in sounds about right.
My best friend is a diehard Deftones fan and has been trying to get me to really into them for years. I've always appreciated them, liked the singles, etc., but every time I've run through the discography, I've liked it but it never fully "clicked." That just recently happened for me with Diamond Eyes. Looking forward to experiencing my first roll out on Friday.
Just come back from the listening party in London. Significantly clarified some thoughts on individual songs. Also now possess a Deftones blindfold and a private music snake tongue pin. I do it all for the swag.
"There is, too, the relationship with their past to contend with. Private Music marks a poignant milestone: Deftones have now released as many official studio albums without Chi Cheng as they have with him." Oh shit, first time I'm seeing this laid out that way
Fuck I can't wait for tomorrow. Haven't been this excited for a new Deftones record in a long long time
diamond eyes was my intro too. That was their new album when I started to get into them. Sooooooo good
