i haven't loved anything deftones has done as much as i loved saturday night wrist. so needless to say this song put me on my ass. holy fuck.
Oh Good Morning Beautiful is such a good comparison. There's something about the dissonant chords with or without open strings that does recall their earlier material. S/T comes to mind because, to my ears, it feels like the album (along with Adrenaline perhaps) on which that particular guitar work popped up the most. I was also revisiting the Bob Ezrin demos yesterday and thought of Finger of Death's main riff. I didn't realize Stef progressively stepped away from doing that. I haven't done a thorough check, but it does feel like he focused more on chunky power chords and sludgy riffs afterwards. Chino's increased guitar presence may have something to do with that change. They usually play complementary roles when both play guitar on a song, instead of having Stef filling up more space by himself. I know Stef devalues his skills at times for giggles, by saying all he does is play one string riffs or chords. Despite their simplicity, you can't mistake them for another guitarist which is quite a feat.
a large part of what makes S/T my favorite is the guitar work on it, feels pretty distinct to me in their catalog in that regard.
Deftones just booked my friend's company for their backstage fun on their upcoming show here. I am trying to uh, get in on that.
We’re less than two weeks out now until release and I’m already feeling that desperate urge to hear the whole thing, unfortunately. I was hoping new Chevelle this week would distract me, but I drove into work today straight up yearning for this album.
Hype through the roof as long as people think the same without slandering Ohms at the same time like I've been seeing more and more recently
Yeah it's okay to say the new stuff rules without putting down the previous album. Ohms was really good. Gore was... interesting. KNY is incredible. Diamond Eyes rules. You get where I'm going. It's always good.
I actually am kinda surprised we haven’t gotten a journalist like Cohen or Hyden posting a random hype quote about it. I’m sure those types have heard it
pretty cool, but I'll stick to my first listen solo where I can enjoy the record more than hearing a bunch of people talking over it.
