We reach for the longest shadow

Gore is a classic album where it's slightly disappointing when it comes out when you have high expectations, but looking back in hindsight after a perceived course correct allows you to look at it like a slight detour that is cool in its own right.

you and i are the only ones who dont. hopefully it's not representative of the album as whole. that recurring riff is annoying to be frank.

yeah idk the riff really works for me, love the super quick triplet chugs that get thrown in

  5. Shouty chorus was my only hang-up and it grew on me pretty quickly once I listened with headphones/better speakers. At this point, it would be silly to me to bet against a band who consistently churns out 8/10s minimum

I know it’s technically the chorus by virtue of being the part that’s repeated 3 times, but to me it really reads as what they’d typically do as a pre-chorus/buildup to the chorus, and the “now we sail” part reads as a proper chorus, but it’s not repeated so it acts more as a bridge. idk, maybe I am reading too much into it but I actually think it’s super cool and shows they’re still thinking creatively about song structures.

It's very similar to MOS in that way. If they repeated it one more time it would be almost identical in structure.

The bracketed area is like, so close, and those can and do shift depending on how I feel day to day, the others are pretty set where they are. Only one less than a 4.5/5 is Adrenaline.

Kudos to you. You nailed my exact order. I was thinking a lot about it, and you got it. I like the brackets idea. As a solid list, I'd say Deftones and Ohms flip often.

It's hard for me to rate any post-Chi album above what he was a part of (except for maybe Adrenaline). I've met him, his dad worked with my dad, and the overall connection I have to those albums sets them apart for me.

No thanks to the shitshow mailing list presale - TM wanted a unique link when we had a code, took them 30+ min to fix, but

17-year-old me who hopped on with Diamond Eyes is levitating rn. So is 32-year-old me, tbf. IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING.

    hmmm

Yeah a bit of a shitshow with links this morning. By the time I got through to the O2 show in London, all the presale standing tickets had gone and seating was £150. And I'm not seeing another show at the O2 from up high.

I'll see what comes up the next couple of days.

As an old man that got into Deftones via Adrenaline - It pains me to see others think so lowly of it

It may be less refined than much of their later material - but try and replicate the buzz seeing that '7 Words' video on late night TV as a 17 year old British lad

    Absolute magic

Adrenaline rules. It's like a moody half-time version of Bad Brains' Quickness album.

Yeah Adrenaline was the first thing I heard from them. still my favorite and the one I listen to the most. Wish they would make another album in that direction. They're too into being 'sexy' or sensual/dreamy.

  20. Adrenaline rocks, but Around the Fur just feels like such an insane leap forward. Really proved what the band could do.

Torn between wanting to see them again and not wanting to deal with the o2. Can't believe I managed to get £50 tickets to see them at Kentish Town a few years ago.

  22. Revisited Gore and I like it better than I thought. Still think it's hurt by the mix and by some songs sounding a bit rushed, for the lack of a better word. Many of them have unconventional things happening by their standards guitar wise, which makes wonder which parts were written by Chino and which ones by Steph.

isn't it mostly all written by Chino? I know Steph was involved in the writing process and the notion that he wasn't has largely been dismissed by the band but it just feels like it has Chino's touches all over it to me

If it isn’t single note picking or power chords it probably isn’t Steph, that’s what I gathered from that Zane Lowe interview.
