you mean the top spots, rrrright? @Penlab, i gave SNW 3 tries, years apart. don't like a single track off it, it's bottom tier I'm really not seeing where people have a problem with the production. no problems for me on that end. maybe i need to hear a 'fixed' version to see what you guys do.
Nah. Hole In The Earth, Rapture, Beware, Cherry Waves, Xerces, Kimdracula, all top tier songs. Amazing, liking Gore so much but hating those songs.
The mix on Gore is pretty rough, but I think it's a really interesting divergence for them and I go back to it a lot more than some of their other records. It's top five for me. Adrenaline is pretty easily their "worst" and for what it is, it's still good. Saturday Night Wrist is next to it because even for having some of their best songs, it's got a really inconsistent vibe and some rough vocal moments/overall misses.
my bottom three is def Gore, Adrenaline, and Diamond Eyes. top is Self-Titled, Around the Fur, and White Pony.
ATF being in the bottom might not be controversial on this site but it definitely would be in terms of the fanbase at large. when I saw them in March, I saw more ATF shirts than anything White Pony related.
I want at least one song on the new record in the vein of Hexagram, Acid Hologram, Finger of Death, Error etc. Something that catches me completely off guard like those did.
I want a Lana Del Rey guest spot. I know it’s a long shot, but I also never considered ISIS making a record with Chino and hey that happened.
First 3 songs on Gore rule, along with Hearts/Wires, and the closing trio of Gore, Phantom Bride, and Rubicon stands up to any 3 song run in their discog, IMO. The crushing way that Phantom Bride ends is one of my favorite musical moments ever.
Listened to Gore again and I don't know what it is, but the songs don't pop like their other albums. Is that the production? Am I becoming a production boi?
Gore's drums (the kick and snare especially) do not really pop which is unfortunate bc that is one of the defining features of the band and Abe is playing some really interesting shit on there that I would love to hear a more well defined mix of I think ultimately the issue, if you want to call it that, is that regardless of whether or not Steph "likes" the album or not (I don't think it's really an argument worth having) he very clearly did not write a lot of it and it is mostly a Chino driven project, and Chino's propensity for weirdness/more off kilter songwriting works best when it's bouncing off of Steph's more simple and rhythmically focused stuff and not just left to carry the songs by themselves
New song is really doing it for me. Was blasting it on my way back from camping in Tahoe. So coming down a mountain listening to my mind is a mountain ya know
have a soft spot for Gore as it was my first Deftones album. if i had to choose three though, probably it, Adrenaline, and maybe S/T? but i think Adrenaline is my least favorite, and the gap between it and whatever 8th place is (leaning S/T, but i could put Gore there too) is substantial.
My favorite deftones albums are diamond eyes, white pony, and koy no yokan. I think I like gore as much as deftones did based on how they barely cared to play new songs on that album's tour
Yep, this is me. Only a mere 20 something years late to the party haha Now I understand what all these new bands are ripping off (and Glassjaw) Swerve City is so good!!
