My Own Summer is still my favorite song from them, followed by Passenger. Mascara is up there too.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I think Needles And Pins takes the lead as my favorite Deftones song. Romantic Dreams is a close second

Mascara is so damn good. There are a couple of live performances of it that are just unreal.

This whole show is one of their best, but the performance of Mascara is on another level. It’s slowed down a bit and the intro is hilarious.

  9. "Hole in the Earth," "Digital Bath," "You've Seen the Butcher" are all up there for me

Rosemary is probably my favorite if I had to pick, but Digital Bath, Passenger, and Battle-Axe are up there too.

We reach for the longest shadow

When Steph comes in during Rosemary is insane, it just sounds huge. The bridge is also one of the best examples of a piece of music making you feel like you’re floating through a song, it’s incredible.

it’s Passenger for me though. It’s amazing how much atmosphere there is in that song, and it paints such a vivid picture. Chino’s delivery is dripping with sensuality, and Maynard’s hook is so aggressive and catchy. They truly played off each other perfectly in that song.

Been going through all of their discography and I'm on Gore, with Ohms to follow, and at least my evaluation of Gore is that it is still on the lower end of their discography. It's not that the songs are bad, but they just don't feel nearly as strong as on their other albums. I dunno. On their previous albums, I could very clearly rattle off four or five favorites but here I'm hard pressed to really remember what any song sounds like after it goes past.

Gore’s mix is so subpar that it does the songs no favors, but even with a perfect mix I still think it would be clearly one of their worst efforts. there’s some great stuff in there, but there’s some stuff that I just don’t feel like was fully baked. and in general I feel the pace of the record is just plodding along the whole time. I respect the experimentation throughout the record, but I think you can tell the band wasn’t really operating to its fullest during that time. a lot of the songs just aren’t there. I love Prayers/Triangles, Doomed User, and Rubicon; really like Acid Hologram, Hearts/Wires, Gore, and Phantom Bride: and the rest I mostly find to have some great kernels of ideas that never fully are realized.

maybe you don't listen to Bjork. Chino has 'bjork'isms on Gore, especially in phantom bride

No one said it was shit. Deftones standards are not general standards.

As someone who's been a casual fan for 25 years, enjoying a lot of their output but never quite getting the more extreme hype that puts them up at like a Radiohead level... maybe my opinion isn't relevant. But I ran through Gore the other day and I think I'm with you. There's a questionable stretch in the middle, but the beginning and end have some of their best songs for my money. If the production were fixed, it might be my favorite. But then again, like 4 or 5 of their other records all hit pretty similarly for me... really good, but noticeably flawed and not desert island level.

  25. Gore bores me until it gets to the title track. The last three songs are as good as they've ever been. Wish the rest of the album was of the same caliber, though I acknowledge there's some interesting stuff going at times. I just don't think they captured it well.
