they seem really dialed in for this one in a way that I haven't seen in a long time

White Pony is an odd duck because I think Bach To School doesn’t fit on the album at all, but I also think Feiticeira is a weird choice for an opening track

That tour is crazy. Extremely jealous. The NA tour lineup was also great and unique . Greats know greats

the first time i heard White Pony was with Back to School, and i thought it didn't really flow with the album well. was glad to hear it wasn't part of the original tracklist. i don't hate the song, but i barely ever reach for it.

    idk man

If I knew Back to School existed when I was say 15 it never would've left my rotation

I specifically remember showing up to the first day of my senior year of high school and blasting it in my headphones when I walked to class. I thought I was the shit

BTS was on my first copy of WP but I’ve listened to the original track listing for so long now that anything other Feiticeira sounds wrong opening that album. I do think BTS is a jam though.

I'm enjoying people learning the story behind Back To School and why they did it 25 years after that whole thing happened.

Also, I'm fucking old. This band has been one of the few constants in nearly my entire life and I am so thankful for that.

the only change i've made to my digital copy of White Pony (the 20th anniversary version) is slotting The Boy's Republic in between the two discs, as it should be

The Boy's Republic is incredible, one of their best

At this point, I doubt we'll get Eros at all, but I wish they'd at least release an official version of Smile

I haven't been a huge fan of their singles for a long time now

so if I like the single for this new album this much then the rest of the album must be unreal. hopefully that makes sense. I'm very high atm

I’m coming around on the length too. It’s dynamic enough that I’m content when it ends, and ready for what’s next.

my brain cant comprehend how something so heavy can be so relaxing. This song put me in a euphoric state.

I've been going down a rabbit hole reading old interviews and shit bc this is my favorite band and I'm hyped on this album. I think it's really funny how people are trying to read into the tea leaves on answers/interactions in the Zane Lowe interview bc holy shit it used to be so much worse hahaha. Chino has really mellowed out, it's a miracle we still have this amazing band

Wow, I learned a lot of stuff about the band from this. I didn’t know they tried working with Dan The Automator. That would’ve been a sick collab

Considering how amazing all of their penultimate tracks are, ~metal dream is highly likely to be a standout.

We reach for the longest shadow

That Zane Lowe interview was absolutely incredible. I was locked in the whole time, and usually an hour plus long band interview is daunting for me.

steph is such an odd bird, but I’m glad they work together to allow him to operate in the band with all his idiosyncrasies, because I do think his guitar work is integral to who Deftones are. They mention “grateful” a lot in that interview, and I really feel that as a long time fan, just grateful they’re still together, grateful the output is quality, but also grateful to just see that they found a healthy way to create and tour with each other, and that the shows seem incredible and potentially sounding better than they ever have.

Glad to live in an era where bands I discovered when I was 11-12 are still releasing impactful music and touring while I’m in my mid 30s.

the bits where Steph hadn’t heard the full album sequenced but Zane had, and him not knowing the song titles aside from their working titles was pretty funny. I feel like Steph even said something like, “I’ll learn it and figure it all out when it comes out”.
