Probably because it came out at the right time for me, but I love the Self-Titled artwork. White Pony will always be the most iconic, but S/T is pretty great.
The contrast of the colors is so striking for that one. the red and blue mixing with the black and white is really cool.
Hmmm I always thought the self-titled artwork was kinda corny. Good colors, but a skull with roses always made me think of like, Tapout shit haha. I don't think Around the Fur is awful though, so to each their own!
ATF art captures a particular stage in the band's life and a 12 year old me thought it was rad when I first saw the album. I still like it haha. I love all of their artwork honestly.
Ah yeah, I could see that if it came out now. I wasn't that cynical in 2003 yet, haha. I think it's the perfect explanation of Deftones. Really pretty and brutal at the same time.
S/T artwork made a huge impression on me when I first got the CD. Coupled with song titles like Battle Axe and Bloody Cape it really help set the mood. Plus it nails the dichotomy of Harsh+Beautiful that Deftones has always embraced. I miss that script font too.
I have a couple. Afterburner is DGD's 9th full length. TUC was Coheed's 9th. The next ETID will be their 9th.
for me Björk, Kayo Dot, jesu, Destroyer, Appleseed Cast, Katatonia, Sufjan... Kate Bush if she decides to do another album...
Also, this song is cool. Not my favorite song by them but I’m sure it will grow on me. It get it did get me listening to KNY, and it made me think about how this band always gets the nastiest sounding drums
I fucking loved the s/t album artwork when it came out. I was in high school and the skulls and roses fit perfectly.
I have the a s/t and an ATF tee. I get that ATF is probably technically not a great cover but it’s ugliness works in its favor imo. another beautiful/ugly dynamic to me, the subject of the photo appears to be a v conventionally attractive woman but the angle obscures that and the picture looks all fucked up and eerie.
Putting that into spoilers just in case, but Qobuz has the track lengths for the album 1 Genesis 00:05:17 2 Ceremony 00:03:27 3 Urantia 00:04:30 4 Error 00:04:50 5 The Spell of Mathematics 00:05:27 6 Pompeji 00:05:25 7 This Link Is Dead 00:04:37 8 Radiant City 00:03:35 9 Headless 00:04:59 10 Ohms 00:04:10 00:46:17
the around the fur art is also extremely late-'90s, like the fiona apple "criminal" video aesthetic crawled onto the album cover. i like this about it though, it fits the record, this creepy and strangely warped perspective on something that would otherwise be considered mainstream (which, by '97, nu-metal was)
yeah woof @ that one also, personally not a huge fan of Diamond Eyes tbh but I know that will not be a popular opinion
