Some pretty eyebrow-raising takes there if I'm honest. Putting Pink Cellphone in there is super controversial - especially when there's only one other SNW track on there. And far too much Adrenaline for my liking. That said, pretty hard to argue with his top 5.
As a comprehensive overview of their discography (which is what he describes his intention as) I think it's an excellent list.
I know Ian has been unnecessarily harsh in his p4k reviews before, but I feel like I'll always check out a band he highlights and most of the time I'll like it.
Well he got #1 (and probably #2 though that's not my personal pick) right and then it's all downhill from there
I think the top 10 is acceptable. It probably wouldn't be mine, but I don't mind it. But yeah, some of those choices are mind-boggling.
He's a little harsh on S/T as a whole in his descriptions. I guess that's expected but it also means we can never be friends.
List unsurprisingly reads like a non-fan who quickly skimmed the discography, trying to fill it out evenly from different eras while leaning into singles and stylistic anomalies. So basically like most p4k reviews of decent music. That said, at least he included Rosemary (their clear best, as far as I'm concerned) and mad respect for Acid Hologram up high.
i mean, he’s definitely a fan and has talked about it a bunch. he just has awful taste and is an annoying, at best, writer lol
Will continue to refuse to read shit Ian writes after the uncomfortable personal attacks on Brian Fallon and Scott Hutchison
I think you're all taking it too seriously as 'The 30 best Deftones songs'. It's an overview of their discography that shows a love for and engagement with the music. Just for the fact that he picked some tracks from Gore, I like it. My list would be very different but I respect that it's not a tired, reciting of their biggest songs, as is usually the tendency with these (obviously he's put a lot of them in but you can tell he actually knows and understands their discography).
his list isn't even bad tho many of my favorite Deftones songs are on there so I'm not unhappy with it, even if it does get a little too typical towards the end
Pretty sure my own list would get dragged. Moana, for example, would be pretty high up there and most fans don't really care for that song.
My top 23: 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 3. Change (In the House of Flies) 4. Minerva 5. Hexagram 6. Hole in the Earth 7. Mein 8. Rocket Skates 9. Diamond Eyes 10. Sextape 11. You've Seen the Butcher 12. Leathers 13. Tempest 14. Swerve City 15. Romantic Dreams 16. Prayers / Triangles 17. Doomed User 18. Hearts / Wires 19. Phantom Bride 20. Ohms 21. Genesis 22. Knife Prty (Purity Ring remix) 23. Passenger (Mike Shinoda remix)
I like the inclusion of the remixes! Can't wait to hear them all. I'm really high on HitE at the moment too. Such a great song.
