I feel like that launch trailer kind of had a lot of spoilers but at the same time I understood none of it
So glad to see there’s not consensus from the reviewers, especially that some have directly contradict each other about their enjoyment of the pace. AAA Game development seems to have shifted to be enjoyable for as many people as possible in the past few years to the detriment of innovation. Even if I may not personally enjoy I hope this prompts publishers to allow for greater risks to be taken in how to tell stories through the medium.
I'm still really looking forward to it, even though it's being described as a delivery game with cut scenes, I'm looking forward to the journey!
Yeah ImA hold out on this for a bit. Maybe just watch the cutscenes on YouTube. I never got excited about the gameplay, don’t wanna spend 60 to deliver packages.
Even the positive scores are reading pretty negatively. “A tedious repetitive slog, an absolute pain in the ass 10/10”
Based on footage and impressions one of Kojima's meta jokes w/ DS might be that it's a game about playing a character doing literal and figurative heavy lifting to make their deliveries, with some players themselves required to exercise patience and some emotional labor to get the most out of the experience. The Last of Us, Bioshock, Fromsoft and Gendesign titles aside, big games usually prioritize escapism, power fantasies, addictive gameplay loops and pretty aesthetics over genuinely making you feeling the wide range of emotions felt in life or during challenging stories told in other mediums, so it'll be refreshing if DS is a game interested in subverting those tropes and is succesful w/ provoking and earning that much emotional investment. A week left until we find out! ^__^
Still getting it day one, I'm a sucker for story-driven games, especially when they're as insane as Kojima's stories tend to be
After looking at the reviews on YouTube, at least we can all agree that it looks immensely beautiful.
I didn't even know this was coming but the BBC did a documentary on Kojima recently which is actually pretty interesting. He talks about the future of KojiPro involving movies and other stuff:
My copy arrives tomorrow. Wish it wasn't via UPS, who hits me absolutely last and so fucking late in the day, sigh.
Played 5 hours and it's wonderful. I love how it tells you when people are using your ladders and stuff.
