Narrow Stairs is Chris Walla's best work as a producer "Cath" and "Grapevine Fires" are two of the best DCFC songs
Been using this bands catalog as a means of catharsis while I struggle with some inner demons and a pill addiction that I'm in the beginning stages of hopefully overcoming Transatlanticism is definitely my favorite and I could make a very good case for it being my favorite album of all time. Its right up there with Clarity, Brother/Sister, ACBTLD, and other albums that I hold very dearly. Facts and Photo are close runner-ups with Photo in particular appealing to me, if only because Styrofoam Plates may well be my favorite DCFC album. Plans, Narrow Stairs, Kintsugi, and Airplanes are a little behind those and while I dont find myself reaching for them much I still enjoy them front to back and they really show the bands strengths as indie rock powerhouses. C&K is alright but i dont really listen to it all that much.
You're v special and ily a lot How you been? Haven't talked to you in a hot minute haha. You @FTank and myself haven't ruined a thread in some time! But yeah bands pretty fantastic. Trying to parse out my top 10 or so songs and I'm having trouble
I'm good. Yeah, it's been a while. I haven't really been listening to much music this year for some reason so I haven't been in many threads in general. I'm sorry to hear you've been having some troubles but it seems like you might be doing better already which is great. I think I have a pretty solid set of favourites for this band, it definitely gets tricky around number 9/10 though.
yeah with starting a new job and such i havent had much time for new music either aside from the occasional big name/favorite artists that have released stuff. Thank you, I'm slowly starting to feel a little better haha. Yeah like We Looked Like Giants or Styrofoam Plates would be my #1 probably but after that I have only vague ideas as to what would be my remaining top 10.
I spent most of this year deciding whether to quit my job or not, ha. Just left two weeks ago so now I have to think of what else to do. That's good to hear. Transatlanticism has always been my number 1 with Brothers on a Hotel Bed, What Sarah Said and Passenger Seat being my other favs. I think Company Calls Epilogue, Grapevine Fires, Tiny Vessels, We Looked Like Giants, The New Year and Title and Registration would make my top 10.
thats a reeeeeal good top 10. The New Year and Company Calls Epilogue especially are top tier pieces of music. An oddball one for me would be President Of What? just because I love that woozy organ and the pure atmosphere of that track.
really and truly the only "bad" songs are on C&K, for me at least. I can find something to at least like on all the other releases. In hindsight I was far too harsh on Kintsugi, I was expecting something akin to Transatlanticism or Facts and thats just unfair. Its a really solid bit of indie rock with some slight experimentation here and there.
I love the run from I Will Possess Your Heart to Talking Bird. Grapevine Fire deserves mention as well. Narrow Stairs is actually a really good album. Only thing about it I don't like is You Can Do Better Than Me.
Narrow Stairs is a very good album, incredibly solid. I think that's when Death Cab (listening to their discography from the perspective of someone who had a lot of it to digest already) could be called "consistent," in the sense that more often than not they'll hit the mark in making a great album, even if it's not a surprising one.
I haven't watched the video yet but last night they also did a cover of Soundgarden's Fell on Black Days. One of my favorite SG songs.
